I'd like to get into 1/600th coastal forces – not in a huge way but I need a place to start so I can expend if I get the urge. I'd like to try some small escort/ convoy actions and be able to game both sides – German & British.

Recommendations on what & how many to start with would be greatly appreciated. I'll be using Attack with Torpedos Rules to start with.

Thanks in advance.

Heres the link for the Narrow Seas Yahoo group. And Dave from PT Dockyards is a great guy to get a hold of too. Very knowledgable and helpful. I have coastal minis for almost all Theatres. But I have been buying them little by little over the years. Robert

Skytrex, PT Dockyard and Stronghold all do decent generic coastal transports, so a few of those is a good start for targets. I'd also go for one or two trawlers (for the British) and KFKs / VP boats (for the Germans) for escorts. As far as the fast movers are concerned I generally build by forces in groups of 3-4. I'd start with a group of MTBs and mid war S-boats, then think about expanding to RN MGBs and German R Boats

Hey David. Has Stronghold gotten them up yet on thier site yet? And I agree with your suggestions that basically how I started out. Robert

The Stronghold 1/600 range is here, IIRC:

EDIT – hmm, looks as though the pages with the actual models on them have gone :(

Yeah :(. It looks like he is slowly but surely getting the site updated but hasn't gotten to that part yet. Robert

Thanks for the replies everyone. I guess Dave's answer makes about the most common sense. Start small and go bigger as time/ money permit. I do have bad tendencies to collect far more lead than I have time to paint and so use of common sense might just be the right way to go – thanks Dave.

Good grief! Am I getting older and more wiser?

Thanks again,
Mike

Most welcome Mike. I have been buying from Dave for quite a few years now. And the little by little course has worked well for me :). Robert
