I basically have everything I'd need to do a District 9 scenario in 15mm except the aliens. It would be really cool if someone were to make something similar. They could also double as Kafers from 2300 AD. Is there demand for something like this? d-9.com or the original short film "Alive in Joburg" link |
Cacique Caribe | 23 Jul 2009 9:38 a.m. PST |
Unlike the insectoid ones in D9, the ones from "Alive in Joburg" look a lot like Zoidberg from Futurama, but wearing a hooded cloak: picture picture For them, how about this? TMP link Those Pendraken "Night Orcs" stand about 13-15mm in height. I was thinking of turning their spears into staff weapons of sorts, or other improvised weapons. Adding tentacles to the face might not be too hard. Either that or try these: link What do you think? Thanks. Dan |

I'm going to be releasing some 15mm insect men in a few weeks, once the painter gets to them. They are not exact copies of the District 9 creatures, but they might do -- perhaps Mark H can chime in here as he's got review samples of the Spearbearers (the insect men). atb khurasanminiatures.tripod.com |

Every time I put an order in for SciFi 15's anywhere, within a week or two, there's a whole new beautiful line ! I'll go mad, I tell you, Mad !

I guess I shouldn't have confused the matter by posting the "Alive in Joburg" link. I'm really looking for "insect men" that can be District 9 aliens or Kafer. I can forgive a fair amount in 15mm, but neither of these are octopods or K'vrak. Looking forward to pics of Jon's Insectmen. Thanks all, Mark K. |

Hey guy's, that's Khurasan's insectmen! There's a reason I go by "Khurasan" in forums -- in wargaming miniatures there's a much more famous Jon. Clambo, drop me an e-mail: KhurasanminiaturesATyahooDOTcom |

Clambo, LOL. But it was all your fault! You got me all excited when you mentioned that you'd like to see the ones from "Alive in Joburg". I thought we might get to see Zoidberg!!! I didn't know you were only after the insect ones from D9. CC |

the Octopoids would be nice for a Call of Cthullu game where 'alien squid' from the PLANET 'C-thull-2' were actually invading earth??? Slish? Sgt DWW-bartentacle and Invasion travel and tour guide |

the Octopoids would be nice for a Call of Cthullu game where 'alien squid' from the PLANET 'C-thull-2' were actually invading earth??? I actually prefer the "Alien refugees fighting for their lives" twist rather than the invasion cliché. To make it Lovecraftian, what if they're trying to escape from some nameless horror? |

These look very similar, which would preclude any problems for anyone who wanted to sculpt something "inspired by" the D9 aliens: picture Whatever rules are done (for any figures "inspired by" D9) should take into account this amazing ability: picture picture And the figures would need to represent a creature nearly 8 feet tall, right? picture CC |
Thieses | 21 Aug 2009 8:41 a.m. PST |
If the bugs are supposeed to be tall, you can use the Dreenoi from Reviersco. They are about 20mm as I recall. (could be wrong) Just cut off the antennas. link |
Cacique Caribe | 21 Aug 2009 8:56 a.m. PST |
"About 20mm"? I'll contact Reviresco right away, for more details on their Dreenoi. Depending on how they are built, I might be able to do something with their heads and lower legs, to make them look a bit closer to the D9 "Prawns". Thanks for the suggestion. Sounds even better than some of the suggestions offered on the following thread: TMP link CC |

I do! I do! That light armor rocks. I'll shoot him an email. By the way, a couple of "civvies" without any weapons or armor at all would be awesome too. They could be sculpted as carrying a few items. That way, they could be POWs captured by humans or simply serve as support staff for the Crustie troops. What do you think? Dan |
Eli Arndt | 18 Nov 2009 12:09 p.m. PST |
Not overly fond of that body armor, myself. It smooths out too much of the character of the Prawns and makes them look like Ant Man from Marvel Comics (hmmm..second comics reference). I wouldn't mind seeing non-com Crusties, but not before the combatants are fleshed out. Some of of the military figs can be converted into civilians. -Eli |
