Hi Chaps,

I'm currently painting up a Norwegian army for WAB that doubles as an Orkneyinga force army for WAB and I was hoping that someone out there could offer me some help?

Basically I'm going to make some 'counter' vignettes to indicate the special rules that a unit may have or become subject to and I was hoping that someone could let me know what the old Norwegian/Danish/Swedish words for the following would be:

Fearsome?

Beserker?

Stubborn?

Frenzied?

I will be adding the text to the sides of the bases of the vignettes. I would greatly appreciate any help .

Cheers,

Darrell.

Berserk's easy, it's a Norse word anyway. So 'berserkr' :)

Fearsome: fryktinngytende(not realy sure about that one, technacly it means formidable or redoubtable, it realy means to strike fear into others, frykt litterly means fear)

Beserker: Berserk or Berserker

Stubborn: sta

Frenzied: Vill

Thats the Norwegian words I think fits best.
There realy isn't a direct translation of Fearsome or Frenzied, Vill realy only means wild

Brilliant chaps! Thanks very much for posting so quickly. The vignettes should add a bit of visual flavour to the army on the tabletop.

Cheers,

Darrell.

It'll read like a 3D Ikea catalogue. "Which one's Billy?"

Mrs Sage would love it grin

Fearsome?
Skräckinjagande
Beserker?
Bärsärk
Stubborn?
Envis
Frenzied?
Ursinnig (really våldsamt ursinnig ~ "violent rage")

That's swedish, personally, i think the norweigan language fits better for "vikings"
with the possible exception of ursinnig :)

Here you have these words in Old Norse (Icelandic):

Fearsome: skelfilegur
Berserker: berserkur
Stubborn: Þrjóskur
Frenzied: óður (taken over by Odin, the god of war)

All endings are masculine singular, for the masculine plural use the -ir ending instead of the -ur endings: skelfilegir, berserkir, þrjóskir, óðir. You can find all these word in the Sagas.

Cheers

Darrell.
