I'm wondering which sites you'll visit most when Bill pulls the plug next February? Since the Yahoo groups will certainly be gone by then, and Google will have been taken out by a pre-emptive strike by Microsoft, I'm guessing most people will end up using a tin can with a string out one end.

Me, I'm going to start a bulletin board of my own for gamers of THE ONE TRUE SCALE.

An ICBN, or intercontinental ballistic nerf brick, coming your way, Mark, there's no escape…

Thank you for your service. grin

Anyone want Mistress's X's phone # and url???

JRacel21 Jul 2009 7:25 p.m. PST

Did I miss something??? TMP is going away February 2010???

I seriously hope this is a really bad joke Mark. If not, you have done serious harm to my current mental state . . . . .

What Jeff said!

I shudder to contemplate such a possibility.

chuck05 Fezian21 Jul 2009 7:38 p.m. PST

Say it isnt so. I wouldnt know what to do without TMP. Where would I get all my info?

Personal logo Saginaw Supporting Member of TMP21 Jul 2009 7:40 p.m. PST

Oooh-kay. Either someone just spilled some extra secret "beans", or I haven't been paying any attention here.

Something tells me Bill's PM box is being stuffed right about now.

Toaster21 Jul 2009 7:43 p.m. PST

The "rumour" was posted by extra crispy, that should be all anyone needs to know.

JRacel21 Jul 2009 7:46 p.m. PST

If this is a joke by Mark, it is REALLY not funny. The sinking depressed feeling it caused me was FAR from funny. This is one of the few refuges I have to try and remain sane, so messing with it may lead to me and others around here becoming unhinged.

Capt John Miller21 Jul 2009 7:54 p.m. PST

Dude, seriously, I am so not laughing at this. This is so not a joke. It's not even funny extra crispy. There are a lot of folks who frequent TMP just to know what is going on in the hobby. Seriously, though what went through your mind to play such a cruel tasteless joke like this amongst us?

We know the one true scale!
We know the one true World War 2 game!
We know the one true Ancients game!
We know the one true skirmish game!
We know the one true Sci-Fi game!
We know the one true RPG game!
We know the one true (Insert favorite genre not previously mentioned) game!

We just want to prove it to everyone else on these hallowed forums.

Think of the FLGS!
Think of the advertisers!
Think of the curmudgeons!
Think of the experts!
Think of the children!

Oh, the humanity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will have to start over on The Stamp Collector's Page, and try to up my post count there. Since I haven't done any stamp collecting since 1979, I doubt my heart will be in it.

I'd have to go back to those papery things … maga-somethings …

Well, at least I'd get some hobby news on the loo.

Wyatt the Odd Fezian21 Jul 2009 8:21 p.m. PST

It's a joke. It's based on the earlier postings about the rumor of Yahoogroups going away. In actuality, it is Geocities that will disappear.

TMP is like the Red Cross – you try not to shoot at it, and it takes money to operate.

I'll go back to my long term project building a quontonium X-39 city level exploder to use on Cincinnati.

I'll go back to my long term project building a quontonium X-39 city level exploder to use on Cincinnati.

I was thinking a denial of service attack on a certain creeping website might cause less casualties.

Jeff

(This is meant as a joke)

Top Gun Ace21 Jul 2009 9:33 p.m. PST

The GZG, and Starship Combat News sites.

Will need to locate others for historical gaming…..

Of course, there will be a lot more time for reading, painting, gaming, and enjoying the outdoors too.

JJS00121 Jul 2009 10:20 p.m. PST

Well, if it is true, I'll probably save bucketfulls of cash and be able to work on the Alps of lead that I have at home.

Well, maybe not. I'm a member of several other wargaming forums so temptation will still lie in wait, but hopefully on a much smaller scale…

Rogzombie Fezian21 Jul 2009 10:33 p.m. PST

It would be like cutting the throat of the miniature underground. Where would you find new brands or ask questions and have an answer in less than.08 seconds?

We would all have to go to GW and Reaper…

Just in case, what is the next best site? :(

shelldrake22 Jul 2009 1:13 a.m. PST

If I had to choose a forum to haunt upon the demise of TMP, then I guess it would have to be Lead Adventures.

database error22 Jul 2009 2:07 a.m. PST

I'm sure if TMP really did look like going away someone else would step in to take over or start up a new site to fill the gap. Things would carry on just as before.

Griefbringer22 Jul 2009 2:09 a.m. PST

TMP going down would be a sure sign of the coming of Arockalypse.

In case this really happens, I would recommend putting on your Zardoz suit and bricole, taking your own broomhandled Mauser and going to the street to take out as many zombies as you can.

royaleddy22 Jul 2009 2:32 a.m. PST

is'nt Extra Crispys' original post an example of why stifles are a good idea?

andyfb22 Jul 2009 3:04 a.m. PST

I seem to be missing something here..

TMP going Feb 2010?…true or false?

Yahoo groups going when????

Someone enlighten me please…

Cheers Andy

Should be obvious – back to rec.games.miniatures.historical …

Inari722 Jul 2009 8:12 a.m. PST

I guess I would have to start painting miniatues again!

dagc5422 Jul 2009 9:37 a.m. PST

Highland Guerilla22 Jul 2009 10:24 a.m. PST

You will smoke a Bleeped text in hell for that one!

Goldwyrm22 Jul 2009 11:06 a.m. PST

Extra Crispy is lucky we don't have his address

He's not that lucky. LOL.

or the number of "free magazine trials" and other freebies that would be coming his way would overload his poor letter carrier.

No I wouldn't do that to anyone, especially Mark for having a sense of humor (and currently a very attractive member portrait)

MechanicalHorizon22 Jul 2009 12:17 p.m. PST

TMP will be shutting down because GW issued a C&D order to TMP for infringing on their IP due to the extensive use of the letters G and W, which are copyrighted by GW.

Again GW, the evil empire, ruins another forum. They can't run a decent forum of their own, so they figure nobody else should have one.

nazrat22 Jul 2009 12:42 p.m. PST

Wow, that's a long, long way to go just to have yet another painfully inept poke at GW.

Jovian122 Jul 2009 12:52 p.m. PST

It's a long way to Tmperarry, it's a long way to go.

Well, I for the umpteeth time will reiterate it was a bad idea to use this as joke about this forum.

As for Extra Crispy – he thinks he's a wit and as always – he's only HALF right.

Endless Grubs22 Jul 2009 2:38 p.m. PST

I'm sure this rumor can only help Bill's bottom line. . . .

Rdfraf Supporting Member of TMP22 Jul 2009 4:21 p.m. PST

This kind of rumor is not funny.

MechanicalHorizon22 Jul 2009 6:38 p.m. PST

Well Nazrat, "painfully inept" is really the only thing that applies to GW so I felt it appropriate.

I did go there about a year ago. Some wack job had hijacked the entire board.
