I'm putting together a platoon-sized skirmish force based on Copplestone's Future Wars range. It's not TOO far in the future (within 50 years), and I want to use some small tracked droids to use as recon units. Since it's not too futuristic, I'm not really looking for floating or flying bots. Just something on a small tracked frame with a built in camera that would look fairly plausible. Maybe some sort of weapon, too. Does anyone know who would make something like that? I know there's gotta be a few out there. |

If you like your recon droids small and cute, how about Star Wars "Mouse Droids?" If you wish for it to be armed, this is not the proper droid. |

Not sure, but you could probably make one, or more out of the hull of a 1/285th scale tank. You could use the tank as is, complete with the turret and all, and/or add a small bit of rod/dowel for the upright mast, and glue on a machinegun, auto cannon, etc., and a bit of other sprue for sights, detectors, etc. |

GZG 15mm MAWPS Would work in 25mm. See the wheeled versions on my blog – but they do tracked also. link Cheers Mark |

Wow, you guys are fast. Mark, those MAWPS look really nice. They're more or less what I was thinking of, but with a "recon" turret or housing. I guess, for 28mm figures, those would be roughly the size I'm looking for, also. |

are those the droids you're looking for? |

A 1/300th tank as mentioned with a thin robotic arm, made with a few plastic bits/rods, mounted to the turret socket point
easy as pie

A toy tank close to 1/300 would be easier and cheaper to come by, thats how I made mine. link It's the last robot in the article. Robert |

The British army used a small 3 foot mini helicopter surveillance system in Northern Ireland. And the US is putting mini cameras on insects so in 50 years

How about legs instead of tracks? The Recon droid in the middle comes from Ground Zero Games. link |

These might work. The three spiders are not attached to each other, so they can be based separately. link |

Check out the Medibot and Bomb Bots for Rezolution. You get a nice selection of walking, floating, and wheeled designs. link Mk-1 A.S.D Aerial Surveillance Drone link CSD Mk2 Enforcer link C.S.D Mk1 link |

Reviresco do a nice line of tracked 'Droids and robotic platforms with a variety of weapons in their Starguard line. |

I'll second "bsrlee's" mention of Reviresco's classic Starguard series. IMHO the "Mobile Operations Module," or "M.OM." will fit your bill nicely. It is small being in 1/72 scale, so for 28mm it works out as the size of a large if low-silhouette dog, has a pair of waldo arms and gripping claws, and has some interesting barrel-like details two to a side which could be interpreted as housing sensor equipment, deployable explosives or smoke dischargers, etc. Highly recommended! Of course! Reviresco does some great stuff. The 6mm "PGGY-88 Assault Vehicle" and "Cobra Light Laser Projector" (look under the Days of Empire section) would both make good tracked remote camera/intel drones. |

I like timlillig's suggestion. Small and wicked. |
