I am about to begin some highlanders for SYW, I am wondering if anyone can suggest some visually effective and very simple tartans patterns for 15mm kits?

I am not going to try the tartan patterns on the socks – it is just the kilts!

Thanks

In addition, check Ioannis' collection of British prints.

Are your Highlanders to be used in the Americas? In Don Troiani's Soldiers of America, the Highlanders are shown with leggings fastened with red tape.

Cheers,

Many years ago there was an article in Military Modelling on a quick way to paint kilts – first paint the whole kilt dark blue, when dry paint thick green horizontal and vertical stripes, then add thin stripes in another colour as required.

I actually have a copy of Don Troianis soldiers in America – got it on a recent trip to Canada for $10. USD

I would like the option of using them in north america.

Fantastic links – thanks everyone!
