I've started painting my first 28mm unit of Prussian (3rd) Cuirassiers. I am trying with some difficulty to paint the "crowned FR" on the shabraque and sabretache.

How do others deal with this?

Should I:
a)keep practising till I get it right?
b)miss out any difficult details?
c)make do with a blurred impression of the "crowned FR"?

Does anyone know of any online images of painted 28mm shabraques that may offer inspiration?

Thankyou for your input.

I try to keep things as abstract/simple as possible on the shabraques and sabretaches. If they are overly complicated, then they will overwhelm the space on the miniature and not look very good.

For the crown, I just paint 2 dots and underscore with a straight line. The FR cypher takes a little bit of practice, but the more that you do, the better the outcome. You might try using regular capital letters rather than the script letters. On 28mm figures, the difference is not very discernible. On the other hand, look at some of the examples on Ioannis' Leuthen Journal site for some good examples of highly detailed shabraques, etc.

Cheers for that Der Alte Fritz.

I'll try and post some pictures when I've finished.
