Does anyone own the Foundry Australian infantry from their Boer War line? I'd like to start building (re-building really) a force for Easter Uprising 1916 and need Irish Volunteers in uniform. Early War WWI British regulars are very close, but the web gear is wrong for the I.V. Foundry's Australians might be OK, but, again, packs and gear. The pics on their site don't show the back -do all of the variations have a pack/blanket roll? |

IIRC correctly yes. A better option is to buy some of the Eureka late 19th Colonial Portuguese. These are in fairly austere kit, and slouch hats with wonderfully thin brims that can be folded up. |

or not as the case may be

?? You mean to say you couldn't bend the brims? |

Try figures for dismounted British cavalry. That'll give you the puttees and the bandoliers instead of the web equipment. link I believe Renegade Miniatures also do these, although their site doesn't have any pictures. I'm sure you could deal with the canteens. As to headgear, you could perhaps investigate the packs of separate heads from the Woodbine Design Company: link If I were doing this, I'd consider a 60:40 ratio of peaked caps to Cronje slouches, with a fair sprinkling of civilian hats. I'd also suggest a liberal sprinking of civilian-clothed/ partially uniformed Volunteers. Some of the Musketeer or possibly even Anglian figures with peaked caps and Mausers could look the part, as could some of the Musketeer RIC figures with slouches and a bit of green stuff on the collars for Connolly's Citizen Army. Mr. Lucan's recommendation also has merit: link |

The dismounted Cav are spot on, if colored the right shade of greyish green. 4th Battalion under Ceannt right there! Musketeers IRA and Foundry/Perry Boers finish out the mix. I had thought of the head swop from the Musketeer Black and Tans with a slouch hat, but am reluctant to try the cutting for fear of ruining them. |

Now to bring the British Empire to its knees
. by occupying a Post Office. Right lads, nobody's gettin' any letters or postal orders today! |

by occupying a Post Office. And a biscuit factory. If they'd managed to take over a place that had lots of tea, who knows what might have happened. |

How about Black Tree Boers? Seem cheaper than Foundry, but slightly chunkier. Any thoughts? |

Yes the BTD Boers are fine, a few are a little hirsute but I have a number for the Anglo Irish War. |
