Hi

Could anyone tell me what sizes, composition (nylon etc.) and brands that are good with painting plastic 1/72 scale figures. I am especially interested in fine brushes that are good for details.

Thanks.

Paul

I have had success using Loew Cornell Golden Nylon brushes. They are inexpensive, do good detailing and last a long time if taken care of. Hobby Lobby carries them.

Thanks,

John

For my 1/72 models, I am using the same brushes as for my 28mm models.

Same brushes you're used to using with other miniatures will be fine, Paul.

Yeah, I just use the same brushes that I use for any other size of figure.

As above, the same as everything else, from 6mm to 20mm.

Perhaps more helpfully, Windsor & Newton series 7, in the main.

I agree with Martin, you can't go wrong with W&N series 7's.

I think that a 1:72 brush would be too small for you to hold…;-)

…but seriously…

There are way too many variables to make definitive recommendations. The brand of paint, how much it has been thinned, density of the carrier, type of carrier, level of detail desired, etc., etc., ad infinitum.

Go get some cheap figures from Hobby Lobby or other local store and start painting with whatever you have handy, you'll figure out whether the brushes you're using are up to the job in short order.

Of course there are common characteristics of *any* brush that for which you should be looking. For example, does it load well, does it hold a point, do the hairs (or fibers) taper uniformly, etc.

A No.1, No.0 and perhaps a No.00 should do you for any miniatures as long as they are good sable bushes with a sharp point.
