Hello, I've been looking for a 6mm WWII rules set for a while now, and recently came across ODGW's Mein Panzer. Their web page doesn't really give much useful information (or maybe I'm just not that web savvy after all), and I have some questions I was hoping someone could help me with. Do the core rules come with any unit data? Looking at their web page, it appears I have to buy supplements to get that data. Is that correct, or do the core come with at least basic unit data? What are the basic mechanics? Is this a D6 system or something else? Is there another system it might be compared to? Is it more game or simulation; does it have 10,000 phases, that sort of thing.. How easy is it to set up and get going? (not counting terrain) Is it points or scenario driven? Any input is greatly appreciated. I'd be especially interested in hearing what people who have played it have to say about it's playability and such. To give you a bit of a reference point of my knowledge/experience for comparisons, etc., I have significant experience with Fistful of Tows 2 (modern), moderate experience with Command Decision 2/3, I ain't been shot Mum, and limited experience with Blitzkrieg Commander. Thanks in Advance. HostileContact |

One to one model ratio and one stand equals one squad. It is easy to get going, they have what ODGW calls drop ins. You can make it as easy or complex as you want i.e. moral, artillery, structures, engineering and command control are all "drop ins", to just name a few. Unit data is present, the World War II data supplement is exhaustive. ODGW states that you can run moderns and WWII with one rule set and that is true up to a point. The data is pretty sparse for modern units, I have been waiting 4 years for a modern data book. Mike |

HostileContact, Sorry that the web site did not answer your questions. Mein Panzer 2 is an armor skirmish level game, where one model equals one vehicle or gun, and one stand equals one squad or support stand of infantry. The Core rules are separate from the Databook, which is an incredibly comprehensive listing of all WWII nations and their assets. There is a sample two turns of a game here: link Despite its title, it does equally well as an infantry game only, and excels at combined arms action. Contact me off list at gregoryk at odgw dot com if you have any more questions. Cheers, gregoryk

The guys at ODGW are/were mainly treadheads and didn't really have much of a feeling for the infantry fight. In my opinion unless they have done a major update since 2nd edition the infantry rules are severely broken. I was one of the playtesters for 2nd edition WWII and couldn't get them to put much work into the infantry rules. I ended up looking for another set of rules. jdg |

Hey JDG, the work that we put into the current version of MP2 plays much better while trying to keep the action moving. I would encourage you to check it out again as I suspect youown the rules the latest version is free for you to checkout. If you have any constructive comments on the latest rules we would be happy to review them. Also you are always free to modify them to your style of play. We always welcome house rules and have a section on our site to upload these to share with others. The Miracle Mile Gamers are well known for their mods to MP2 and had some influence in the latest version. As to Modern Data, our sincere apologies for such a long delay in getting this out. Some internal issues and complications with the data and its presentation caused this and unfortunately could not be helped. We do have a designer working on an Arab/Israeli War Data Book and work is commencing on a Korean War Data Book. While I can not give any release dates, I can assure you it is in the pipeline and we will get it out as soon as we can. ~ Bob ~ |

Is there a Mein Panzer 2 in print? Or is it simply a web update? |

I looked at the rules but the info is sparse to nil. I would like to see a how to play video on YouTube or something and a rulesbook flipthrough for Mein Panzer 2 and the Battlelines game. |
