What's the worst enemy of your hobby? Kids, work, money (or lack thereof), etc. Me, it's the lack of time. Working 40+ hours per week, I just miss time to paint. When I spend like a week home during holidays, I'm amazed at the progress I make. What's yours? |
WarWizard | 06 Jul 2009 9:11 a.m. PST |
1. Not enough painting time. 2. Not enough time to digest rules. |

Bad spellers. People who can't or won't form plurals and possessives properly. The guy on the Flames of War forum who wrote: "phew cool, i might just get 5 and filed one platoon as a forward attack jobby" These are at the top of my list for when I snap. Allen |

My worst enemy is lack of time right now. Working 70+ hours a week is killing my time painting. Specially when that is often 26 hours in a row. |

I would like to nominate also: - People who fail to use punctuation and capitalisation - People who fail to split long text into paragraphs - People who substitute "would of" in place of "would have" - People who cannot differentiate between "there", "their" and "they are" Griefbringer |

Add to the list those who substitute 'loose' for 'lose' or better still 'looser' for 'loser'. Quite common on TMP, curiously enough I've rarely seen this on other fora. |

Money, Never have anough of it. So I'll photoshop a picture of me in the sahara, and I will look very sad, I'll aslo photo shop a few thirsty animals, then I'll try and get some media covrage so people will send me money. Every year norway has this big telethon, were they choose one thing, and then people can send money in by phone, and they have people going door to door to ask for money, they usuealy get inn like 150 000 000 NOK or 23ish million dollars. If I can get them to devote one years telethon to me, I'll have enough money to keep my suplied with figs for atleast a year. |

Painting time
it takes awhile to paint 500+ minis, but I can only say its worth it all when they are done
Small amounts of Free time is ok, I love my family so you have to balance it all out

One of my worst enemies is me. I'll place an order for figures to flesh out partial battalions. (at some bargain tables I've picked up some odds and ends ) Then a day or two after I've made the order I find several other items I should have ordered. Example: just today I placed a third order with Front Rank trying flesh out some units. |

Kids – I lost my permanent set up when we had our second child. NOT THAT I'M ******* BITTER YOU UNDERSTAND! ******** ;-) Lack of money – Being a stay at home house-husband means limited ability to earn some dosh. Luckily my wife actually helps fund my gaming habit. Gawd bless 'er |

Ever since I gave up my studio to allow my sons to have separate bedrooms (thus bringing a moderate amount of peace to our household) and moved my painting area to the den I have been plauged by our two housecats who enjoy tossing metal figures about and chewing on paint brushes. Also having too much in the way of job and domestic responsibility puts a big crimp in my hobby time. However, it is the ever destructive cats that realy raise my frustration level on certain days almost to the point where I want to give up on the hobby. Sadly there is not a way to bar entry into the den. And no, evicting the felines would not earn me any good will with the family. One of these days I will build a workshop in the back yard and all four legged critters will be banded from setting foot inside. |

My deadliest enemy is Lethargy (too lazy to paint) Followed by Envy (of other people's figures) Pride (in my suspect ability to wargame) Sorrow and Anger and Despair (when I don't meet my gaming expectations). I'm quite fond of Lust though (sorry: no details) |
SgtPain | 06 Jul 2009 6:26 p.m. PST |
Time is my chief nemesis to enjoying our hobby. So many, miniatures to paint, rules to play, and history books to read. |
