For those of you who have bought Perry and Victrix plastic figures, how are you getting on with painting them?

I'm going to buy some Perry and Victrix figures to try them out (join the craze) and to collect parts for conversions.

trailape05 Jul 2009 5:33 a.m. PST

Hi
I have about 1000 Perry and Victrix Plastics! (Arrrrrgggg)
Undercoated my first batch of 24 today, (Victrix Peninsular British Foot).
Once they are done, only about 975 to go!
Why do I do this to myself,….?
Cheers

Footslogger05 Jul 2009 7:34 a.m. PST

Not too bad. About 2/3 done of 2 Victrix British boxes, and a Perry box assembled but not painted. I don't feel in a rush to buy Highlanders straight away.

Once you get the assembly down to a simple, repetative style, the painting is easy since all the detail is so well moulded. I have completed a box of Victrix British and a box of Victrix French in about one month.

1000-24=976 more to go trailape.
Don't mind me I'm in a 'Tell me, why did I have kids?' mood!

Scott, you are the bravest of the brave. They will look good when they are done.

Once these companies start putting out Russians I'll become a plastic magnet myself.

Coyotepunc and Hatshepsuut05 Jul 2009 7:28 p.m. PST

I am going to be doing mine for Song of Drums and Shakos, so I will probably only doing about 15 out of each Victrix box I am going to buy. Plus some horses :)

Trailape – why did you do it? Because you can!

Now there is a true gamer!

Good painting!

galvinm05 Jul 2009 8:31 p.m. PST

About 1/2 of 300 Painted or in the process of painting. Not too bad, considering all the other projects in the works….

10mm Nappies
10mm ACW
10mm Ancients-Roman, Carthaginian, Saxons, Greek, Macedonian, Crusader
25mm Greek
15mm FOW American, German, British
WH40k Imperial Guard, Space Marine
WH Wood Elf, Chaos
25mm ACW
etc, etc, etc.

Don't even get me started on terrain projects!

3 down, 621 to go – I'm on a roll….

Arcticman10 Jul 2009 3:39 p.m. PST

Painting them? I am still busy assembling them! I have so far put 120 British and 120 French together, so now I have only about 330 British and 360 French to get together. Maybe I can get myself to paint a couple of batalions in betweeen…
And maybe, just maybe I will have some painted when the plastic cavalry and artillery appears…. and when the Austrians come along I will have to start over again…

Oh the joy of plastics!

Hubbynz10 Jul 2009 6:15 p.m. PST

Lmfao and I thought painting one box was time consuming. I have painting 16 of my first box and have just purchase a light infantry even promising myself that I would not allow myself to buy anymore until I have finished the first box.

People are talking about using these plastic Naps for Big Battalion games like In The Grand Manner and General de Brigade. It is going to take a while for gamers to build up their units.

I still have about three hundred 28mm 1809 metal French to do befoe I start on the 700 1815 Perry French!

Hi
As posted earlier I've completed one VICTRIX Regt:
link
(Brit 44th Foot)
Started on another two 32+ fig Battalions of Brits and 2 x 24 Fig FRENCH Battalions.
Highlanders arrived a week ago, but I'll be sending them to a good mate of mine to paint, (Tartan arrrggggggh).
Cheers

Well I did say ABOUT 975.

trailape: in one of your (excellent) pictures of AB French Heavy Cavalry, there appears to be one Cuirassier, beside the Porte-Aigle in the second rank, bearing a "spear"; what's this? Is it simply a damaged Eagle, has he captured a lance from a Cossaque, or is it a documented regimental peculiarity?

Loved the Carabineers, by the way; if I hadn't already done both Regiments from Minifigs, I'd go for AB myself.

ColonelToffeeApple25 Aug 2009 11:22 a.m. PST

One box of Victrix French and one box of Perry French still on sprue. No doubt they will soon be joined by French hussars and heavy cavalry. You have to have a look!

trailape25 Aug 2009 3:46 p.m. PST

Robert le Diable
The figure in question is a standard bearer.
I suspect he is meant to carry a Squadron flag of some description. Since the photo was take I've given him a Tricolour to carry. I've left the Eagle bearers simply with the Eagle, (no colour attached).
I've not check if this is correct, but I trust AB did his homework,…
Cheers

Perry Horseys are lovely. Vitrix heads are fiddley.

archstanton7325 Aug 2009 7:13 p.m. PST

If you undercoat them on the sprues does that count as 'starting to paint??'….

dbf167626 Aug 2009 4:18 a.m. PST

Five boxes of Perry British, 24 single Rifles, and six boxes of Perry French assembled and ready to go to Sri Lanka for painting. Now I can paint my British colonels myself.

christot26 Aug 2009 4:52 a.m. PST

Plastics mountain?….I think I qualify as having a pebble…about 20 left-overs from 2 boxes of Perries and 1 of Victrix. Next box of Victrix in the post.
Why anyone would buy 700 in advance baffles me (unless you got a thumping great discount)

trailape26 Aug 2009 5:35 a.m. PST

Why do I have 1000+ plastic figures?
I don't see it as buying 600 figs, rather than getting in 10 boxes,(10 boxes of 60 figs per box = 600 Figs).
Oh, and I guess you could call it an addiction; (I don't smoke, drink or do drugs, so I've gotta spend my money on something,…
