I've been looking at War Times Journal's 1/3000 scale pre-dreadnoughts, and would please like the opinions of other TMPers that may have bought and/or assembled and painted some.

Thank you.

Saginaw,

I've got the fleets for Manilla Bay and Santiago from WTJ. No parts to assemble as the ship's are so tiny. Very nicely done figures.

Excellent ships. You can't beat them.

Thanks,

John

Thanks, fellas!

I wondered if you guys bothered with trying to scratchbuild and attach masts, and if you did, what did you use? Also, just how tiny can some of the models get? An example would be the USS Petrel, which is listed as being 188' in length. In 1/3000 scale, that measures out to about 3/4 of an inch (!). Would that be the case, at least for that particular model?

Yes, lots of the models are close to an inch in length.

Between some of the best Viking Forge models available and Panzerschiffes for the rest, if you want models a bit bigger, 1/2400 should do the trick. For that era, 8,000 yards is about the limit of effective range even for battleship guns and speeds top out at about 21-22 knots for the fastest of ships so table size shouldn't be any more of a problem in 1/2400 than 1/3000.

I have attached masts, used a tiny bit and used brass wire…works well.

Yep, all the 1/3000 and 1/2400 gain from careful masting.
