I have been inspired to try my hand at conversions by looking at figures on the itinerant wargamer blog. I need some spare heads to chop and change.

Now it occurs to me that I can use some of the plastic heads from Victrix, Perry etc. for conversion of metal figures. Assuming the scale isn't too far off, it should be OK.

Has anyone tried it?

I have done it with Perry and Victrix heads between plastic and metal bodies and the end result has been quite good. You have to ensure that the saw point on the body matches that on the head but some filler can patch things up once things are in place. Obviously you use plastic cement when it is plastic to plastic and super glue when it is metal to plastic, but the bonds are quite strong. Using Perry heads on Victrix bodies (and Perry knapsacks as well) you can get a very good match between their respective British infantry.

Mixing Perry and Victrix is okay. I tried to use the Victrix heads to convert some miscast Front Rank British models I had lying around, and the result wasn't great. Although Front Rank are great, the models are a bit chunky, so the heads looked a bit too small.

I added Perry plastic heads on Foundry French and it worked. Foundry are usually a little bit smaller, but the heads of the models (also designed by the Perry twins) are the same size. Because the old Foundry blisters had 10 of the same models, you can get nice variations.
