Here's some more old 30mm flats which I've stripped and repainted. The originals were produced around 100 years ago. A shot of the original factory paint: picture And after repainting, with acrylics. No more figures left, I'll have to look for more on eBay to fill up the phalanx. picture picture Steve |

Gorgeous! I love how flats look. Too bad they're so damn expensive. |

The finals are very pretty, but it is like colorizing Citizen Kane. Why not start with some unpainted originals? Repainting original Britians?? |

Thanks, pavelft. I disagree, Bob. You might make a case that it's a sacrilage to deface classic painted Kielers or Mignots by reworking them. But objectively, the Heinrichsen factory paint is crap. For me, what counts is the good castings underneath. Steve |

I can certainly understand Bob and his dog's point, but man, those factory paint jobs are poor, and CorporalTrim's painting is beautiful. If I could paint that well, I'd probably strip everything and do it over myself. Gorgeous stuff CT! Dave

Yes lovely painting again! I'd play with those, but not the originals, so it has to be a good move in my books. |

How about a tutorial Steve or workbench article? I have a mess of 30mm flats that I haven't started on yet as I'm not really sure how best to start. Great work as always. Donald~ |

Thanks again, Guys. Donald, I'm not sure how many would be interested in a tutorial about such a niche subject. But please feel free to PM me, we'll see what we can do about shrinking that gray army of yours. ;-) Steve |

Great work! Many of the old factory paint jobs don't hold up well over time
flaking etc. Why not take a lemon and make lemonade? |

Seriously good painting there. Lovely work. Painting flats is REAL painting. What I do on fully round figures is essentially 3D colouring in. |

I am jealous! My Romans look crappy compared to your Macedonians :-))) BTW: Were you able to get samller series from Lampert? Greetings from Graz! |
| CorporalTrim | 07 Jul 2009 7:11 a.m. PST |
Hi, Ulenspiegel. I'm going to finally place the Lampert order this week. Are you going to Kulmbach this year ? Steve |
| Ulenspiegel | 07 Jul 2009 11:36 a.m. PST |
No chance this year, but I will visit the Zinnfigurenbörse in 2011. Next year I plan to visit the Austrian flat museum and hope to visit the Goslar museum or Kulmbach museum during summer vacation. Another usefull goal would be a workshop for oil painting of flats, the owner of the HZ site and Fridericus Rex shop is a extremly gifted painter and runs really good workshops. |

Okay, Ulenspiegel. Now let's see those Romans. :) |

No chance! I was faster and have removed the paint the 4th time :-)))) I will give them a try after vacation. |
