Last Saturday, at the quarterly Game Day here in the Twin Cities, I ran a fighting sail scenario based on a naval skirmish that took place on Lake Ontario in 1755 between the French and the British. The ships are 1:300 scale, and the rules were a variant of Wooden Ships and Iron Men. Pictures are here: link Enjoy. Jeff |

Great pictures and great ship figures! Thanks for sharing. Where did you get the information on the naval battle? I'd be interested in the scenario. Also, I'm originally from Upstate NY. Ted |

Great work Jeff. Lots of curiosity as I collect 1/300 ships. Great work there. My own collection is for a fictional 1814 conflict on Lake Superior or Huron. VSB |

Ted: I collected bits and pieces from all over, but the account that got me started was from Malcomson's "Warships of the Great Lakes 1754-1834". VSB: I'd have to agree it's a good choice of scale and theater. This scale is perfect for small ship actions; large enough to show the detail but not so large that the models hog up the available gaming space. After finishing up my set of models for Lake Champlain 1776 (which you can see here: link I'm moving on to Lake Erie 1813, so I can have the complete orders of battle before the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Lake Erie. I want to throw a huge commemorative Wargame and Party. Jeff |

Nice looking game. I REALLY like those ships. Of course, I also game with 1/700 scale WWII ships. I like em large! :-D Thanks, John |

beautiful ships. I toyed with the idea of making 1/600 scale (or so) ships for the Great Lakes
never got off the ground tho. |

The ships look fantastic! Do you have a tutorial or any info on building paper sailing ships? |

minigamer: Sorry for the slow response; I just got back from a week in a little cabin in the middle of nowhere. Do you have a tutorial or any info on building paper sailing ships? Not exactly. At least, I suspect, not in the sense that you mean. The ships are part of a project which I hope to take commercial in the next few months. It's taking me a while to put the first release together, since I won't release individual vessels . . . only complete orders of battle for a particular campaign. The "kits" for these ships will be all digital; they will include the parts for the ship, to be printed out on cardstock from your computer, and detailed, heavily illustrated instructions on how to put them together. The downside is that you will have to provide some (inexpensive and easily obtainable) materials yourself. The upside is that once you have the files, you can make as many of them as you want to. If you're interested in trying out one of the models, drop me a PM. Jeff |
