Are these made of wicker? Would they be a straw colour?

I'm painting Old Glory's 10mm grand redoubt for myself. There are some Gabeons at the "business end" of the redoubt.

Gabions are made of wicker work. So brand new ones would be a straw colour. As it weathers, the wicker work will become more brown.

Wicker basket colour! Have a look at a craft show. I suspect there'd be more bark left on than you'd expect for a fancy basket – so a bit of grey amongst the "straw".

does this help? OK its a bit earlier than the grand redoubt but….

Actually a lot would be made from hazel or willow, at least in Britain, and the bark is left on, so more of the natural tree colours for those two species of tree. And I have firsthand experience, as I've helped make a load for a battle re-enactment.

If I find any pix I'll try and post them up.

Thanks. Looks like I have a lot of scope for varying the colour from straw to wooden brown.
