Last night I ran a quick little battle to try out some new tweaks to DBA for the Great War. The game featured a force of two British battalions in a desperate delaying action against a German regiment near the fictional Belgian town of "Yons" Pictures and a brief report of the game can be found on my blog: link |

Tim, looks like you had a great time! I wrote a WW1 DBA variant some years which I posted on my website at: link There may be some ideas there for you to take forward into your variant. |

Nice AAR. How large a game do you think the Extension for WWI would handle Tim? Also curious as to the extra British Mg stand. Was it there for play balance? I like the Command rules that Bruce M created for the Extension as well as the limit on recoils. Really improves Dba. Thanks, John |

Thanks guys! David – I had seen De Bellis Horibilis years ago, but had quite forgotten about it. Thanks for drawing my attention to it again. John – The spare MG was mostly there because I happen to have one
and maybe I thought it might give the brits a chance. I think they were a bit under powered. We'll probably give them a tad more range. They were pretty much the same as Rifles – the extra 100 paces of range did not make up for teh fact that they couldn't fire if they had moved and the fact that they were quick-killed by anything in contact. How big of a game
? I don't know. I imagine if one were using the big battle rules – commands of 12-15 stands each under their own general – I suppose it could handle a pretty big game. We've been playing smaller games just to have quick games and try things out. |
