Some more horse sculpts for comments and criticism.

First a horse encountering a rattlesnake. Yes, the almost invisible green squiggle on the rock is a 28mm coiled rattler! The horse is supposed to be skidding to a halt. link

Next some shire horses. They came out rather enormous even for heroic 28mm scale!

And a pic of them from the front – their heads look okay from the side, but I think the muzzle is too wide from the front. Any thoughts? link

I like them a LOT. The skidding horse looks a bit odd because the scene is so static. Probably a rearing horse would have worked better. Still, I like them. You're really good with animals.

Very nice work. The first obviously is a draught horse. The second more a light or medium cavalry horse.
Agreed, the noses are a tad too wide at the end.
Most I've seen, but not all and we live in horse country, narrow near the end then flare at the nose mouth area. But not as much as yours do.
Still very nice!

Thanks guys.
I'm hoping the skidding horse will look more dynamic when it is painted with whites of the eyes showing.

I hadn't seen your earlier sculpts. These are certainly promising. There is not a lot of consistency between the shires – were you trying to make them similar or trying something different with each one? That's a good test of a sculptor's mettle: whether they can accurately reproduce the style and heft of a given figure.

Now that I think about it, the dumpy shire horse reminds me of the style of the one from Eureka's "Clockwork and Cardigan" (sp?) game. That horse was deliberately exaggerated and cartoony, but charming nevertheless.

Static Tyrant – for one I was trying to follow a photograph and for the other (less dumpy) one a line drawing of a standing shire, then tried to alter the neck correctly to make it another grazing shire. I think the dumpy one came out closer to the orignal picture, except that its legs are a bit thick.

i like the big shire best, nice big long horse face and solid barrel chest. the snake horse in comparison has a very shallow chest, and a small face (maybe she could be looking down at the offending snake, to make the connection between them more clear …
