I have now quite a 'portfolio' of sculpts ( mostly 28-30mm )

link

and get a generally favorable response when i post pictures on various forums. I've put a good few hours in and the standard of my work has improved

Does anyone have any ideas, thoughts or advice for how best to promote/sell my work , other than randomly floating about online posting pictures ?
How do mini manufacturers go about finding new sculptors ?

if i could begin to sell a few, i could afford to put more time into making more sculpts but obviously its very time consuming and the wolf is always slavering at the door !

Sites like TMP are great for getting feedback, but are they the best way to get the attention of companies ?
Or am i barking up the wrong tree and should simply treat it as a hobby and get a proper job !

cheers
Flay

Cool Mini or Not is another miniature site that has tons of followers.

Find a company that sells products like what your selling and send them an email and pictures.

Mr Flay,
How can I get in touch with you. I might be interested in some of your figures :)

Or alternately, email me

flog them here in the market place, works for wiffwaff

headzombie01 Jul 2009 10:24 a.m. PST

Agreed. Try the marketplace. I have picked up some sculpts there.

I've managed to find new homes for some of my sculpts on the market place.

It works in some instances but not in others.

It may be worth while getting some cast. You'll learn more from that and seeing how you'r figures turn out is handy.

Hi,

We might be interested in working something out, we like to use new sculpters. Email me at enquiries @ blackcatbases.com (remove the spaces!) we are at Bovington (a games show in this area at the weekend) so I will not be around much until next week.

Jo:)

Thanks for your replies chaps .
lupus and black cat i have sent you emails,

Maybe i'll try something at the marketplace here, i have seen greens on sale on ebay occasionally, but i guess ive always be wary of letting work go for an undercooked price by auction. I'll check out on cool minis,
I have had some things cast, which has been very useful in learning how to make minis that are castable.

It's odd perhaps, that there isnt a dedicated sculptors/manufacturers site anywhere, somewhere that people can put their work up for sale without distractions.

Hopefully there will be a few more posts here, i reckon theres plenty people would like a few pointers, its a very random industry outside the major companies
cheers

You can try contacting companies that already have some sort of "program" to cast independent sculptors work.

And be aware that most of these don't pay cash up front, but pay you a small amount for each of your minis that sells.

The companies that immediately come to mind are:

Black orc
Impact Miniatures
Hasslefree

But certaily there are countless others out there.

Other place (appart from CMON) for you to try your hand is web competitions (the FU-UK contest come to mind).

The bottom line is: Send pics of your work to lots of places; listen to the needs of the companies, so your work fits their ranges; and don't expect to become rich and famous overnight.

Good luck and best wishes.

Well, you could try eBay as well, in addition to posting info about them here, for free.

That should at least get you some visibility.

Hey Flay, I would be interested in talking to you about perhaps commisioning some sculpts. Can you give me your e-mail address and I will message you.
