I am contemplating wargaming Arab Israeli Wars in Micro Armor. Most of the literature I have read seems to indicate that the vast majority of these encounters were very one sided affairs often to the point where I question whether this is a good area for wargaming. My club seems to like Spearhead and I understan that there is a modern version for it, so I will probably be using that system. Does anyone have any advice? |

Have a look at the Cold War Commander part of Blitzkrieg commander- there are some battle reports and scenarios here. The points balance tends to mean these are not one sided. blitzkrieg-commander.com 1982 Lebanon is definitely not one sided but I have to say I like it better in 15mm or maybe 10mm. These pages are also excellent for spearhead and teh Arab Israeli wars. link |

Bernhard, hi, I would also say that the wars were not one-sided. In 1973 the Egyptian assault on Sinai was (at least initially) very successful as they had new wire controlled anti-tank rockets (Saggers, were they?) for which the Israelis were not prepared, and so they lost a lot of armor. In the end I believe it was old fashioned footsoldiers which saved the Israeli day. And the very recent battle in Lebanon was not one-sided either. Regards, Robboth |

The Chinese Farm is one of the best all around scenarios in the 20th century (i.e., challenging for both sides with very different capabilities). I have had my eye on Suez '56 (Archers! SU-100s! Centurions and Shermans and Migs! What's not to like?) for quite some time. Lebanon is pretty much a skirmish scenario, I don't see a lot of combined arms happening there. While the Israelis have won most of their wars, like R. and I. point out, you just have to find the challenging scenarios in which they were overconfident or thrown off balance, and your sense of satisfaction playing an Arab Army will be very rewarding. |
