Hi all- I'm wondering where folks have found 15mm Viking huscarles with spears? It seems like a lot of manufacturers (e.g. Old Glory, Khurasan) have unarmored viking spearmen, but armored figures typically only have hand weapons. Will I be forced to modify figures to make armored spear, or am I missing an obvious manufacturer? Thanks in advance. Regards, Marty |

If you are talking about FoG as your rules set, then the rules themselves say that the troops are rated for effect as Offensive Spearmen even though the actual Vikings were armed with a series of weapons. I wouldn't worry about it, using whatever models you like best, for that reason. Similarly, FoG classes Germanic cavalry of the Late Roman+ period as lancers even though, with the exception of Sarmaticized Goths and Lombards, they didn't actually use lances, but rather light spears. It's a classification for effect. No need to find Vandals or Visigothic cavalry with lances to field them, as you won't find any. And look at the Nikephorian Byzantine Klibanophores, who had maces by and large, only some guys in the back ranks having a lance. These are rated as lancers for effect. Better by far to have them depicted with macemen in the front, to make them look authentic, just putting some lancers in the rear of the wedge. Depicting them correctly is not against the rules! |

All- Thanks for the suggestions, I'll have to check them out. ->TVs Frank, part of it was due to the FoG classification, but another part was a desire to have armored viking spearmen. I base figures for use in skirmish gaming, FoG and other rulesets, and I'd like to have some armored viking spearmen to play with once in a while
thanks for pointing out what the FoG rules actually said. Regards, Marty |

I have used Two Dragon and like them. Of course you can use any Huscarle with a sword and state that his primary weapon was a spear. |

Try Irregular, they have an excellent selection with multiple variants. Nic EUREKA MINIATURES |

Go for figures with spears
Archaeology and primary sources show that essentially every viking was spear&shield armed. Richer ones had swords as well. At least a third had bows (and spear&shield) and a few (very few) had axes (and spear&shield). Look at similar ranges (Saxon, Anglo-Danes, Irish etc) for figures or add spears to the ones you have. There is a huge range of manufacturers out there and most of them do Vikings. Many, many years ago (WRG 5th ed time) I had a complete 25mm army with every figure different. |

The 50 Paces Vikings are now made by Baeuda. |

I think these Essex dark age figures make reasonably good armored spear armed Vikings: link |
