Excuse my naivety but I need help getting my head around 15mm. I've just started to collect Flames of War 15mm and, having never played this scale before, I'm starting from scratch buying scenery etc. I read somewhere (sorry can't remember where I read it) that OO scale buildings can be pressed into service for this scale (Model Railway buildings allegedly being a cheep alternative to 'Wargaming' buildings). But looking at the scale guide here on TMP [ TMP link ] it seems HO scale is a much closer match to 15mm. Can anyone advise me? BigLee Blog link |

You're on the right lines – most 15mm vehicles are sculpted to 1/100 scale. OO is 1/76, HO 1/87 – larger "government" bulidings and suchlike in HO can work very well with 15mm. |

Most 15mm figures are sculpted very roughly to 1/100 scale. But because of the height of the base and greater than normal girth of metal figures, larger vehicle tend to "look right". |

HO scale can look large, but I think industrial buildings work pretty well (I guess because peoples frame of reference is off on doors and windows for a industrial building) |

With the amount of terrian made for 15mm gaming, especially WWII or any European conflict, why even consider Model railroad buildings. Even the HO stuff is going to be a bit large for most 15mm stuff. Many of the 10mm building ranges will work for the 15mm games. |

Actually, many HO railroad manufacturers make their buildings underscale, so they don't dominate the tabletop of the model railroader, so in my opinion they are an ideal match in many cases. The above is especially true when one considers that many 15mm figs are really about 18 – 22mm's tall (15mm to the eyes as the scale measure, in many cases). |

22mm's should have been 20mm's, but you get the picture. |

Thanks for the feedback guys, its been very useful. In response to Miniatureships, I'm just keeping options open. One of the guys I work with is selling a load of HO buildings dirt cheep. |
