Every year, usually on the weekend in June which falls nearest to the anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo (June 18th, 1815), an impressive historical re-enactment takes place on this most famous of all the battlefields of Europe.

Visiting Waterloo for the re-enactment battle weekend has become something of an annual pilgrimage for me and my trusty camera, and this year was no exception.

For those of you who were unable to attend, I've posted my photos here:

I've also posted two other closely related photo walkthroughs. For my Wellington Museum pics, check this link:

And for my Waterloo Tour pics, which include the Visitors Center in Mont St.Jean, views of the battlefield from the top of the Lion Mound, the 360-degree battlefield panorama, the Allies bivouac in Hougoumont, the farmhouse of La Haye Sainte & other battlefield landmarks, and the re-enactment of the Battle of Plancenoit, check this link:

Great photos living in California my dream is to attend the 200th anniversery of Waterloo. I got a 2nd Light KGl uniform and a 23rd RWF Uniform.

Only about 2,180 days to go!

Great Pictures.

The troops moving through the crops in the Waterloo ones give a really different perspective to a wargames table representation!

Some of those Highlanders need to cut down on the porridge though! :o)

Liked the Wellington museum shots too. Particularly the one that could have been captioned Canister 1 – Cuirassier 0!

The Lion Mound pics served to remind me what a climb it is up all those bloody steps!

Great photos. Looks like a really good time was had. Some fabulous uniiforms on display there. I'v always fancied doing some re-enacting myself, and I am strangely drawn to the uniform of the 71st LI (the classic red-coat + diced shako).

(So it didn't spoil the look)

One of my great regrets while stationed in Germany was that I never made it there. I was schedualed to go for I believe the 175th aneversery, but a surprise field problem ended that. Really really annoying. Maybe some year when I become rich.

Good stuff! I was at the 1985 event, also 88 and 90 (alas, the last one I was able to attend before moving back to the US). Good to see this one is still going strong.

some of that Guard Chasseur stuff is in the region of 5 grand plus-that particular unit the Xeme Escadron have period harness and tack as well as all the uniform and so on. Cuirassier groups include the Dutch Cuirassiers-good bunch of lads again their kit you're looking at a minimum of around 5K. Infantry is cheaper- £400.00 GBP plus jacket, £50.00 GBP overalls, you've got your belts, shako (French can count on spending a ton), musket go Perdesolli and its 500, go Indian and its less. As with anything you can start at any level and work your way up.
I have a few bits of French Napoleonic kit available -21eme de Ligne. My first Waterloo was in the 80s and back then most of the groups present were Belgian marching societies so you saw folk dressed in converted blazers and so on and carrying the weirdest weapons (and around 12 officers for 1 squaddie). Standards have improved amazingly since then. If you fancy doing Napoleonic reenactment then google 21eme and 85eme for French units, for Brits then Napoleonic Association or 33rd Foot.

Beats my one postcard I received from my cousin a few years back.

I love the Dragoon green.
