I have a new player joining my campaign and I'd like to find a miniatures for her character. If anyone's familiar with the Dragonlance setting the she would like to play a Northern Ergothian (dark-skinned human). She's thinking of playing a bounty hunter or outlaw character (female Robin Hood with the charm and archery skills). Her main weapon is a crossbow and she uses whatever's at hand for melee. One thing that's making it difficult to find a miniature is that she wants her character to be constantly wearing very strange clothing with unusual designs and bright colours. Any suggestions? |

I'm not familiar with Dragonlance in any detail, but I'd look at Reaper Miniatures in the first instance as they have a large and varied range of Fantasy miniatures. There are two very nice female characters with crossbow that may fit the bill, Ashlyn and Tara. link Or perhaps a more colourful figure such as this: link Cheers Mark |

Another Reaper possibility: link |

A couple of others that may suit : link link Reaper do niiiice figures. :) |

link mod her with a crossbow? link too elfy? link If she's not wedded to using a crossbow: link And for colorful clothes (I suppose you could attach a crossbow to her back somewhere? link |

Yea, Norscaman, that looks like an Ergothian. Are there any other miniatures with that kind of look, maybe with a crossbow? Also, I think the player may prefer something with a bit more clothing. She has this thing about female miniatures that are too naked (I know, makes it very hard to find miniatures for her characters). |
| Norscaman | 25 Jun 2009 11:00 p.m. PST |
Well, you could easily mod that into a cross-bow wielder. As for more clothes, jeesh! Is she or isn't she Ergothian??? If so, I think they dress pretty skimpy. You are not going to find all of it in one mini. You will have to add the cross bow if you actually want her to look Ergothian. Other than those that have been shown, I can't think of any with more clothes and a crossbow. I actually can only think of one other good middle eastern female which is Layla from Helldorado, and she is mounted. |

Freebooter might do something you could convert

I think she's looking for something more like how Maquesta Kar-Thon is dressed on the cover of her book link I don't mind adding the crossbow, I've still got a few loose ones laying around. I'm not the best at conversions, but I may be able to figure out how to add a crossbow slung across the back, or swap one hand for a hand holding a crossbow. If a crossbow wont work she may be OK with a bow instead. She wasn't sure which one she wanted her character to use and may actually give her both. So a miniature with a bow and/or crossbow would be good. |

Then Mweaver already gave you the right girl. Does this work? link She even has the puffy pirate sleeves. If not her, then these should do nicely: link link link link link She obviously wants to be a pirate lass! |

If area of exposure of skin is an issue maybe someting more Middle East woman would work? link and scroll down to Iraqui women – yes it's 20mm but it a quick example of the style of clothing I was thinking about. Norscaman had some great relatively modest examples as did
well everyone else. Busts the mentally 15 year old sculptor stereotype
What are her concerns? Cleavage, full frontal nudity, bondage styling? No, I'm serious, and Greenstuff can proide camisoles/leggings to deal with those kind of issues. As what some here would call a prude I do understand she might want a non-Tart figure but there are some great figures pesented here. I think the biggest problem would be style of clothing? I am not familiar with the character. My wife was the Dragonlance fan in the house
My old eyes had trouble identifying details on the book cover picture from Amazon above. Any bigger pictures? Gracias, Glenn |

Glenn, you crack me up. Also, painting can make any skin look like skin-tight clothes, or make non-skin-tigh clothes look like they are see through. It is all in the way that the painter paints the mini. |

Glenn, if you go to the amazon page and click on the cover it'll give you a bigger image of the cover. The player in question isn't really a prude, she's just not into the whole "female adventurers running around in bikinis" thing. The other suggestions have been fantastic and I've sent several of them to the player to see if there are any she likes. I wouldn't mind finding some other miniatures with more outlandish clothing as well, maybe something Mediterranean, or Gypsy, or like the last mini Neotacha suggested. |

I never meant to suggest she was a prude. I like the female form but some circles I move in find my sexier/more "exposed" miniatures "questionable" so I understand that not everyone has the same compass in these matters. Gracias, Glenn |

" Well, I'm not exactly a "1" (on a 1 to 9 scale) but neither do I move beyond a 5 on my best days either
I doubt I could pull off the latter. Gracias, Glenn |

" Bikini as armor
yeah, I hear that
Not very practical. Gracias, Glenn |
| Norscaman | 27 Jun 2009 10:29 p.m. PST |
Yes, but bikini as bikini is VERY PRACTICAL! Furthermore, let's not forget that for much of human history, women went partly naked anyway. No, it does not make sense for armor, but skimpy clothes are not new. The quintessential female friendly figure in my book is this: link But she is a tiny Gael Goumon sculpt and tough to paint. I stripped her (no pun intended) four times before I liked the paint job. I mean! |
| Warbeads | 28 Jun 2009 5:51 a.m. PST |
My Lord, she's a perfect Fighter/Thief (sorry, PC Mode, Rogue
) figure. Personally, I would dump the big sword but that just me. Is that your paint job by any chance? "
Yes, but bikini as bikini is VERY PRACTICAL!
" No argument there. "
skimpy clothes are not new
" True, I believe the creator originally had us naked (Genesis) but those were perfect bodies
and perfect minds. And Adam only had Eve so he could get in trouble for looking at other women. Ahem. Hmmm. Maybe God knew what a mess for men women's love for fashion would be
Seriously, what size/scale is that figure? Gracias, Glenn |
| Norscaman | 28 Jun 2009 9:55 p.m. PST |
Hey Glenn, She is not mine. I just finished painting mine, but have not based her. I'll post photos here at some point this week. Frankly, she is a pain to paint! The size is 28mm-35mm (I give a range now). She is exactly 35mm, but is small by Reaper standards. In GW terms, she is about normal height, but very slim. The standing Valten, to give a height reference in GW minis, is 36.5mm. Nothing is 28mm anymore except really old foundry stuff. Anyway, she is a Dark Sword miniatures sculpted by Gael Goumon. And like I said, female-friendly. |

Lots of excellent suggestions so far. If she likes flashy clothes, she might like this Freebooter miniature: link The staff (with hands attached) is a separate piece, so it would be very easy to remove it and put a crossbow in one hand, and a sword or dagger in the other. And if she doesn't like the exposed midriff and back, just putty over the navel and paint it as a skin-tight bodysuit under the rest of her clothing. |
