Hey folks!

I run a special midnite game at Origins for folks/friends who play WEGS Old Skool (my six-stat sword-n-sorcery system). The midnite game is a full throttle single encounter that pits the heroes against a devious minion of incredible power.

This year, I gave the players a choice of the minions they could encounter. Initially, the list was composed of eight classic monsters/minions, which we whittled down to the top three:

--A Demi-Lich (think Tomb o' Horrors)

--An Ether Dragon (think dragon mixed with a wraith)

--99 Low Level Orks

I just threw the Orks on the initial list as a joke…

Guess which minion won?

I'll post details of the game post-con!

OK, everybody sing!

Oh, 99 low-level orcs on the wall
99 low-level orcs
Take one down
Pass it around
98 low-level orcs on the wall.

(Well, someone had to do it.)

Wegzo II22 Jun 2009 8:07 p.m. PST

LOL…

That hadn't even crossed my mind…

I hope no one starts that song; it'll be a long night!!!

Many moons ago we did a game with a bunch of "retired" DnD characters. The DM sent 10,000 orcs, 4 got away. I think bonus victory points for inventive way of dealing with the orcs.

richarDISNEY23 Jun 2009 1:17 p.m. PST

Funny, I did think of it…

Oh, 98 low-level orcs on the wall
98 low-level orcs
Take one down
Pass it around
97 low-level orcs on the wall.

Oh heck…

Oh, 97 low-level orcs on the wall
97 low-level orcs
Take one down
Pass it around
96 low-level orcs on the wall…

Gracias,

Glenn

Egad! The 99 Low Level Orc Chorus has begun… At least we all know there's a definitive end to this in about 95 more posts! :-)

To Sabre6,
Can't imagine 10k orcs! I've going to have my hands full just running 99. Given their low level, I'm imagining my dice rolls will decrease with each passing round!

And now back to the chorus…

Of course, if Jay-Z plays he'd sing:

If you're having kobold problems, I feel bad for ya son,
I got 99 problems but an ork ain't one

Farstar25 Jun 2009 2:31 p.m. PST

Oh, 93 low-level orcs on the wall
93 low-level orcs
Take one down
Slap it around
92 low-level orcs on the wall…

93 low level orks on the wall
93 low level orks

FIREBALL.

Farstar29 Jun 2009 12:46 p.m. PST

*cough*cough*

uh…

Quiet please, I'm counting.

71 low-level orcs on the wall
71 low-level orcs
Take one down
Slap it around
70 low-level orcs on the wall…

Last Hussar29 Jun 2009 4:04 p.m. PST

We're gonna need a bigger wizard.

Wegzo II30 Jun 2009 6:00 a.m. PST

I go away for a few days to Origins, leaving y'all with a small ork problem, and find that there's still a heap of 'em alive and kickin! The smouldering heap is pretty cool, though ;-)

Sad to say, the midnite game did not go off as planned. Our 9pm game ran in extra innings and we decided to finish that one off.

Best-laid plans of orks and men…

(I have put this on the schedule for a con in a couple weeks. Will see how that goes!)

Lion in the Stars01 Jul 2009 4:52 p.m. PST

little redhead girl steps on stage.

"Darkness of blackest pitch
Crimson of blood that flows
Buried in the stream of time
Is where your power grows

I pledge myself to conquer
All those who stand
Before the mighty gift bestowed
In my unworthy hand

May the FOOLS who stand before us
be destroyed by the power you and I possess!

Dragon . . . Slave"

Farstar02 Jul 2009 1:16 p.m. PST

Oh, 70 low… wait… er… 61… 56… 43… strafe along the wall… 25…

Heck with it. Wake me when its over.

Last Hussar02 Jul 2009 2:53 p.m. PST

The smouldering heap is pretty cool, though ;-)

We aim to please,
and shoot to kill.

As the final nail in the coffin of this thread, we pull in the big guns:

KING ARTHUR:
Consult the Book of Armaments!

[Brother Maynard steps forward]

BROTHER MAYNARD:
Armaments, chapter two, verses nine to twenty-one.

SECOND BROTHER:
And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, 'O Lord, bless this Thy hand grenade that, with it, Thou mayest blow Thine enemies to tiny bits in Thy mercy.' And the Lord did grin, and the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths and carp and anchovies and orangutans and breakfast cereals and fruit bats and large chu--

MAYNARD:
Skip a bit, Brother.

SECOND BROTHER:
And the Lord spake, saying, 'First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three. No more. No less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then, lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.'

MAYNARD:
Amen.

KNIGHTS:
Amen.

KING ARTHUR:
Right! One!… Two!… Five!

SIR GALAHAD:
Three, sir!

KING ARTHUR:
Three!

[Arthur lobs the bomb, choir of angels sing, big big boom follows and ork guts fly everywhere]

Thus ends the tale of 99 low level orcs…

Last Hussar06 Jul 2009 4:59 p.m. PST

I got better…

Farstar08 Jul 2009 3:24 p.m. PST

So that's it?!?

We can't sing about orcs on a wall if you take out the wall, you know…

Wegzo II08 Jul 2009 7:27 p.m. PST

Now, now, let's not bicker 'n argue about who killed who!

This is an 'appy occasion!

As fate would have it, I'm running a full platter of WEGS Old Skool events at a con this weekend (Dexcon, NJ). 99 Low Level Orks is slated to run on Sunday.

So, I'll have game details for you all next week on my exploits.

Wegzo II15 Jul 2009 4:59 a.m. PST

Finally got to run 99 Low Level Orks at a convention this week! Due to the number of players that showed up, we expanded the terrain to two tables:

Ork King's Keep

The Liche King's Crypt

We joined the two tables together with a bridge so players could travel from one encounter to the next.

Did I launch the full fury of 99 Low Level Orks?

Nope… Only about 40 and some dungeon dingos!
