In no particular order…

Vietnam, Indo-Pak Wars, Iran-Iraq, Gulf Wars 1 & 2, Afghanistan (both Empires).

Farstar22 Jun 2009 1:49 p.m. PST

It's all bad…

You missed the "Georgia Affair".

Only a couple of those are usefully and repeatably gameable at a tactical level.

Current wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and soon to be in Horn of Africa area. Add into the "troubles" that pop up from time to time in the world that create interesting near future what ifs.

Current conflicts in Iraq and The Stan. Also keen to take a look at "The Georgia Affair". Things are not finished there and indeed may spill over to the Ukraine. Anything in that part of the world would be interesting. Also maybe a conventional war with North Korea and South Korea/UN. Maybe throw in a little Chinese with NK.

World War III mostly, with a minor interest in Arab-Israeli ('68 or '72).

Love the Vietnam era. IMHO that is the war that lays the basis for the counterinsurgency type of military we have now here in the US.

I really enjoy 'Nam games and am now getting into Iraq with Ambush Alley. I never thought I'd EVER play current affairs Moderns, but AA is such an incredibly written system that I was forced, FORCED, I say, to buy into it! 8)=

French Indochina

Joep12322 Jun 2009 7:22 p.m. PST

Arab-Israeli Wars, Bosnia/Croatia/Serbia, Chechnya, Rhodesia and the current Iraq and Afghanistan.
All of the other conflicts named before me are also of interest.
And like Nazrat, I want to do them all with Ambush Alley or Force on Force.
Thanks
Joe

Ambush Alley Games22 Jun 2009 7:47 p.m. PST

Now, Nazrat, the husky, bent-nosed gents that came to ASK you to play AA were very polite about it. Don't make me send them back to ask for an apology.

;)

Glad you like the game, sir!

nazrat22 Jun 2009 8:14 p.m. PST

Please, Boss, not the goon squad!!

The REALLY good news is I just met a guy at the local game store Saturday who is also nuts for the game, so I'm not the only one pushing it on folks around here.

I am lone voice here at great hall games in austin TX for AA and FOF. Im waiting for my 6and 10mm cities in a box and for shawn to finnish the asset cards to go with the awsome FOW cards I have. Also waiting for piers to help shawn finnish the Ambush Valley version GHGs is stuffed with TAG viet figures and FOA vehicles. Then I will luanch my assault on the FOW guys, one by one or in groups I shall convert them to the true GOD of war HAAAAA haaaaaaaaa Mad , Mad or simply er ummmmmm maybe I can get a demo ready for Melenium 11 …………Mikey

Prince Alberts Revenge22 Jun 2009 9:08 p.m. PST

I have 15mm armies for PLO/Syrians and IDF for the '82 operations (lots of fun), love gaming those. Have 1/700 aircraft for Falklands that make good games…plenty of unpainted lead in 15mm for Falklands and 20mm for the rest (Iraq, Chechnya, Afghanistan)…just not painted. Would also like to get my '79 Nicaragua and SADF/Angola projects started as well…so much lead.

Rogzombie Fezian22 Jun 2009 9:42 p.m. PST

Would Rhodesia count? Well its my favorite!

Jemima Fawr22 Jun 2009 10:17 p.m. PST

Angola & South West Africa in 15mm.

More recently getting into 15mm 'Cold War Hot' circa mid-1980s (re-inspired by 'First Clash').

charon22 Jun 2009 11:09 p.m. PST

Late sixties, historical, potentially historical or preferably fictional conflicts, set in in Africa (with a bit of Nam).

UshCha22 Jun 2009 11:31 p.m. PST

Fictional Cold war to cold war moved to now! Basicly any interesting force provided its in Westen Europe. reason I am dammed if I am going to have two lots of terrain. Even with fold flatt buildings and hills at 1/72 you run out of space to store it if you fight on something like representative terrain. Having green and desert woud be unthinkable.

Paul Y23 Jun 2009 2:18 a.m. PST

Yep, mid-80s NATO v Warpac.

Personal logo Murphy Sponsoring Member of TMP23 Jun 2009 2:38 a.m. PST

In no particulare order…

AK47 (Bongolesia games), Vietnam, Nato VS Warpac mid-to late 80's…

Martin Rapier23 Jun 2009 2:54 a.m. PST

Not sure I have a particular favourite, mostly the obvious ones WW3, Gulf War 1 & 2, 67 & 73 AiW, various counter insurgencies from the 1960s to the present, AK47/Modern Africa, Falklands.

TodCreasey23 Jun 2009 5:59 a.m. PST

Falklands are tops for me. Two modern forces, not too many supports, lots of great skirmishes.

Fatman23 Jun 2009 7:34 a.m. PST

Anything from 1960 until now mostly in the air, 1/600th, but lots in 15 & 20mm, used to do 6mm.

taskforce5823 Jun 2009 8:20 a.m. PST

#1 for me is Arab-Israeli: air, land. Even on the sea there were some great small craft actions (e.g. Battle of Latakia). Missile boat combat is much easier to game.

VietNam is next, but only for the air combats.

A lot of other areas also attract my interest too: 2nd Korean War, South African border wars and Rhodesian bush war, Desert Storm armor action, urban combat in current Iraq (gotta put those Strykers in use), NATO vs. PACT, Falklands (air & sea only). I might even dabble in some current Afghanistan operations, just as an excuse to use those Canadian Leopard 2A6M tanks.

Novels by Larry Bond, and also Harold Coyle are also great for scenario ideas too.

M1Fanboy23 Jun 2009 12:13 p.m. PST

Me?

Twilight 2000 themed games for my 20mm stuff…and it's leading me into some weird places, like what's good in 20mm for Iranians in the 80s and early 90s (ca. Iran-Iraq), I know Rolf makes the Multipurpose stuff…but does anyone make Iranians with G3s and US webgear/helmets? I use FoF and AA for the rules…cracking fun if you ask me.

My 1/285 is structured to do the traditional "Soviet Sunday drive to the Rhine" game with FFT2 (Please let 3 come out soon!), but yes, I am structuring it to be flexible and also run the above. It lets me do things like Motor Rifle regiments with BMP-3, for example…

I am also considering expanding into Iran-Iraq and possibly a Second Korea idea as well.
