I received my shipment from Tom Dye at GFI for the TVAG Rough Riders! subscription today & figured I would pass on some quick comments.

When I first ordered these castings, I was a little apprehensive from the pictures on the website, but went through with it anyway. I am glad that I did.

The figures are a large, robust 15mm. Sculpting is crisp & they look like they will be easy to paint. Poses are varied & realistic. I think Tom Dye is doing the casting & the quality of the molds & metal composition shows. There is no flash whatsoever & mold lines are almost nonexistent. I look forward to painting these guys up ASAP!

I was just beginning to worry about them, when they arrived at my door.

I have been hoping to do a Philippines campaign for a very long time. And now I have all I need to do it. More Moros then I could have dreamed of.

Pictures! We must have pictures! grin

I've yet to order anything (I'm poor….sorry), but I like that there are Peninsular Spanish troops in greatcoat and Ros cap. The last manufacturer that produced such figures was Frontier, and they're pretty much long gone. As a suggestion, these style of Spanish could also be used as government troops during the Third Carlist War of 1872-76.

Looking forward to what you've got, PAR. thumbs up

Having only recently realized that the funny slishy feeling was that I was up to my Bleeped text in alligators, I have been distracted from making some formal announcements on the TVAG Home Page.

That said, anyone looking to consider the 15mm Rough Riders! figures need only follow the (dated looking) active links to their page where you may both see and order such figures as may strike your fancy.

And, yes, full credit to Tom for putting his full interest and expertise into making the new molds and metals into excellent reproductions of Chris Ferree's original sculpts.

There is MUCH more to come, and some wonderful surprises already nearing completion, keep your eyes open.

Saginaw,

I picked up the original 'Battle in a Box' San Juan Hill back in 1998 and was bale to host a game for the North Penn wargamers on the 100th anniversary of the battle. Remember, the war was fought in July, in Cuba and Puerto Rico. The straw hat and rayadillo uniform is the practical one to be wearing in those conditions. There is a picture of a Puerto Rican battalion receiving Mass in San Juan in Pith helmets, but they too, may have switched to straw hats in the feild.

A word on rayadillo, at any distance the pin stripes blend in, so a uniform light blue-grey color is the answer. Trying to paint pin stripes on 15mm is a massive pain and doesn't yield realistic results. IMHO.

Same same on the rayadillo. It kept me away from the Spanish American War for years. I went with a very pale blue (Duck Egg blue).

Check out the TV movie "The Rough Riders" and you will see how rayadillo shows up close and at wargame range.

Patrick, any chance of TVAG offering 28mm buildings in
addition to the 15mm buildings on the website ?

Not to toss cold water on TVAG's 15's, but I've a bunch
of nice Tiger Miniatures (from Recreational Conflict)
Span-AM/Moro Insurrection figures in 28mm.

And of course I've ordered your rules…

I did the same with my Spanish. A description in Brasseys' said that reyadillo appeared as light blue at a distance. Never liked the pinstripe look in any scale. My Spanish were done for TSATF.

Dear Ed,

Yes, the 15mm card stock models of the buildings on the San Juan Heights and at El Caney will all be offered in 28mm to go with those lovely Tiger 28's.

The Philippine style huts and longhouses are already offered at TVAG in 28mm and would be just the ticket for your Moro games.

Now, if I can only get a new PRINTING SERVICE….

Alas, it seems that the Rough Riders range is temporarily on hiatus!
