Well I completed the project in just three weeks. Using already existing terrain and Samurai I added 10 Ninja to my collection at Nashcon and had them painted and ready for a game today. I spent this past week working on the rules and definitions and encounter system and it was a blast. I wrote a lengthy AAR on my blog here link Check it out and please let me know what you think. |

The period at the end got stuck in your link. This one works: link Good AAR with pics
that's how it should be done! |

Great battle report, and pics. Love the terrain, and figures. It sounds like you have a good system there. What % chance do the ninja, and others have of detecting one another? Are they the same, or different? |

Thanks for the fixed link Cloudcaptain! The spotting check was roll 3D6 under a target number. For all the Samurai and 2 of the Ninja it was 11-. For the Sumo (day job) Ninja and the leader it was 13-. The factors were 18" maximum spotting range and range modifiers of up to -4. Finally if you made your stealth roll (which ranged from 11- to 17-) the points you made the roll by were also added as a modifier. The odds were against the Samurai. However in combat the Samurai are killing machines. You'd have a better chance sword fighting a threshing machine. The key was spotting them before they spotted you and moving silently so that you could hit them from behind for maximum damage. They for the most part were wearing full kit armor so it came down to aiming for the vulnerable spots for quick kills. 1 of the Ninja took no damage. The rest took a variety of damage but nothing approaching 50%. It will be reworked in time for Historicon. I'll have everything reduced to a large index card for each figure by then. It was nice getting a chance to use some of my custom terrain again. I spent month in 2005 building that stuff for a totally different game. |

I've retooled the game after my playtest. I managed to squash the rules into 1 page and the character sheets into 1 page so with duplex printing the players will get everything they need on one piece of paper. It was a trick getting everything down to that level but given that I want a convention game the rules have to be that simple. Overall I did manage to get rid of all the nuance but the basic mechanics are intact. Given my players didn't know the nuances of the other system this should play just as well. The next bit will be to play test it again and then get the rules and sheets published on one of my web sites. |
