Yes I am living dangerously again and considering an order from this inefficient outfit. This time it's Late Roman infantry. One thing I would like to know is if these chaps are giants as are their brethren in the Early Imperial range. Can anyone help? |

Not too big; IIRC they were designed to complement Foundry. If I get a chance I'll shoot a comparison shot next week. Simon |

They fit in well with GB and Westwind |

I don't believe they were designed to complement Foundry; you can check with Woody (Richard Ansell) for the story behind them. And I do not think most of us would pick up any two individual figures from the two ranges and say, "Oh, yes! A good match!". The BTD figures are noticeably larger. But
I was struck some time back by how well David Imrie (League of Augsburg) had used them together. His Web page is now defunct, but some of the photos of that project are still accessible through the Wayback machine. In each case here, the front ranks of figures are BTD, and the rear rank figures are Foundry: picture picture Those blew my mind (apart from the excellent paintwork) when I first saw them, as I would not have believed they would work together. But the key, as always, is that the helmets are close enough in size that the differences in the size of the men is not jarring. Mr. Imrie used units of all-Foundry auxilia alongside these two legions: picture picture picture This collection remains some of my very favorite servings of eye candy, and always serves to remind me when I start getting a bit too persnickety about 28mm figure sizes. As Karl suggests, I use the BTD legionaries as elite "Arthurians" next to WW and GB units. Allen |

I stand corrected (I vaguely remember or mis-remember a discussion on Frothers); but I'll take some comparison pics early next week, anyhow. Simon |

You may be thinking of the Imago Militis Romans which Richard also did. They were meant to match Foundry's EIR. Allen |

Hi Allen; wasn't the Imago Militis thing I was thinking of. I half remember a posting from the dim'n'distant where the rationale was that the BTD Late Romans were intended to complement the Foundry range by providing different helmet designs etc
Looking at the ones in my own lead box, they are bigger than Foundry, but not so much bigger, and they are similar in build and helmet size. I'd mix within an army, and possibly within a unit, as the splendid Mr Imrie has done. Cheers, Simon |

Oh, put a little birdhouse in your soul. |

But are they from Istanbul, not Constantinople? Simon |

Thanks Simon and Allen. Those look acceptable to me. If Mr Olsen will confirm they are actually in stock I will place an order for a few Regts. |

There are some more pics here of killshot's excellent painted figs. Including one showing the height difference nicely. link They fit very well with the Musketeer and Westwind Saxons too. As for the other matter that's clearly nobody's business but the Turks. :) Trev |

Trev, they are, indeed, really nice. One day I shall have to paint the ones in my lead box! Simon |
