I ran a Hordes of the Things campaign over the weekend. Eight participants from Saskatoon, Calgary and Edmonton battled it out for control of the land of Hottsk! To see what you missed out on (if you weren't here!) – a report of the action from the first year of the three year campaign (with a bunch of Pictures) can be found on my blog: link I have to give a HUGE thanks to Cory, Bob, Chris, Christian, Terry, Rick, "other" Tim, and Jackson for helping make this 20+ year dream come true! You guys Rock! I should finish up the reports for years two and three some time later today

This was awesome. Easily in my top 3 gaming events ever. Being able to fight on the table top and still play at the political-economy of the map gam was really a great experience. Awesome job, Tim. |

Are you using the standard HOTT campaign rules, or something of your own devising? |

I used a lot of the HOTT campaign system with a number of tweaks of my own – the main one being simultaneous secret movement – like in the board game "Diplomacy". A number of other tweaks had to be made to make things work with this change. Another big difference was after each battle players rolled to recover stands. Stands were recovered on a 6. a +1 was added to the roll if you won teh battle. +1 was also added to the roll if the battle was fought on territory that tehplayer owned at the beginning of the game. This second tweak was brought about because we found in an email playtest I did a couple months back that after the first turn armies that lost battles were at HALF the strength of other armies and could simply never recover
Next time I do it, I'll make it a 5+ with the same modifiers. |

Looks really great! We played something very similar, 5 or 6 years ago, over a long day (set in Glorantha; we called it "Gloryday"). I think your idea about recovering elements is very sensible. Simon |
