Is Old Glory coming out with 28-mm Franco-Prussian War figures this summer/fall?

I need to purchase 28-mm 1870 French, 1870 Bavarians, and 1870 Prussians for Chassepot & Needlegun. It works out to a brigade of French Infantry, 1 brigade of Prussian Infantry, a Bavarian infantry regiment, a French battery, a Prussian battery, and cavalry & command for both sides.

It would a lot cheaper for me to buy Old Glory than Foundry & Castaway Arts, but Old Glory has tons of goofy poses that I usually don't like. And it's one reason I've stayed away from Old Glory Zulus, but I might take a friend up on buying his OG Zulus if my BTD order doesn't come through…

I have not heard that. Helion also has some very nice Prussians.

OG FPW would be nice, especially for VSF gaming. I love the armies, but have heard FPW doesn't play well.

I've played They Died for Glory in 15-mm FPW and 25-mm Chassepot & Needlegun. I like Chassepot & Needlegun better than TDFG. It's a rule set by Larry Brom that plays similar to The Sword & The Flame.

My friends in St. Louis agreed to collect 28-mm armies for it. And one told me OG is supposed to come out with 28-mm figures (I've seen the 15-mm Old Glory FPW figures, which are nice). But I wanted to confirm it by seeing what other people on the web had heard.

I don't think Old Glory has any plans to do 28mm FPW figures ever. If you want everything from one manufacturer, you need to go Foundry. The Castaway Arts and Helion stuff is nice but are not complete ranges. I think they are also bigger than Foundry. You can also get 28mm 1859 French infantry (which look close enough to 1870 French to work) from Battle Honor's (via OldGlory15s.com)

If you do C&N make sure you have at least a 6'x10' table. The artillery shoots out to over 4 feet of tabletop space (and there are no range bands [other than canister]) so if you each set up within 1 foot of the table edge you are already in arty range.

Now if you want to do this in 15mm, Old Glory 15's covers everything (except dismounted dragoons). Essex also has a good range (I like their artillery better than Old Glory's).

I thought I had read somewhere (probably here) that OG would never do a FPW range because of the owner being such a Francophile.

They did early war French for WW2. I don't see FPW result as being any worse than 1940.

Also, I wouldn't say that TSATF plays like C&N. They both use similar dice. There are many differences in the rules.

Thanks,

John

TDFG and C&N are totally different. I just like C&N better.

And I'm in no mood to paint 15-mm figures, again, after finishing this SYW project. It would be nice not to pay Foundry prices if OG came out with a 28-mm FPW line.

However, I wanted to see what everyone hard about the rumor.

If worse comes to worse, I'll buy a combination of Foundry, Askari Miniatures, and Castaway Arts with some OG artillery.

This is probably related to a project that my brother is working on with Battle Honors/Old Glory 15's both manufactured by 19th Century Miniatures. We scultped the 15mm line and then he started doing some 28mm figures for fun. He has done about 30 or so French, Prussian, and Bavarian 28mm greens that are fantastic. But that is as far as things have progressed. He has not sent any in to be cast at this point in time. I am not sure what the status of the project is right now.

Tell your brother to get them in now!!! Perhaps do a few of the more obscure like the Brunswickers, Saxon Jagers and some mounted French Command!

Tally Ho!
