Which ruleset(s) do you prefer?

Future War Commander. Large unit action, fast resolution, any minis easily work with the system.

Grizwald08 Jun 2009 8:41 a.m. PST

Stargrunt II. (Haven't you asked this question before?)

Nick Nascati08 Jun 2009 8:50 a.m. PST

5150 or Ambush Alley

Mooseworks808 Jun 2009 8:55 a.m. PST

Forge of War or Ambush Alley

DontFearDareaper Fezian08 Jun 2009 9:14 a.m. PST

5150 for skirmish action and Future War Commander for larger battles.

Dave

Wombling Free08 Jun 2009 9:36 a.m. PST

Laserburn or 5150 for small skirmish, Imperial Commander for large skirmish.

(Haven't you asked this question before?)

The older you get, the newer the questions seem. grin

Best?

I guess it all depends on what you are looking for, really.

I use 5150 for skirmish games, though I occasionally drag out Warzone 1st edition and Rogue Trader as well.

For larger stuff, I use FAD4 of course. Why go through all the trouble of writing a game, if I wasn't gonna play it :)

Im a big fan of Stargrunt but I rarely play it any more.

M1Fanboy08 Jun 2009 9:53 a.m. PST

Like Stargrunt, but like most here, I don't play it anymore as I have really gotten to like Ambush Alley..though I also like 5150 for the Man to Man level.

Martian Root Canal08 Jun 2009 10:28 a.m. PST

I play both Future War Commander and Stargrunt II. I use the former for mass actions and the latter for smaller unit stuff.

smokingwreckage08 Jun 2009 10:30 a.m. PST

I'd use Defiance, but only if you want skirmish scale: a platoon or two, some vehicles. Basically 28mm but with more realistic ranges and cheaper models!

Only Warlock08 Jun 2009 10:36 a.m. PST

SGII for sure.

JRacel08 Jun 2009 10:36 a.m. PST

Ambush Alley's Force on Force for me.

I play a lot of Alien Squad Leader. It fits in nicely between skirmish and something a lot bigger like FWC.

Black Cavalier08 Jun 2009 12:33 p.m. PST

2nd Alien Squad Leader

nazrat08 Jun 2009 12:40 p.m. PST

SG II without a doubt!

Vulture08 Jun 2009 2:11 p.m. PST

Beamstrike and FAD for me.

Nothing, actually, as I don't do 15mm, but I'd use the same old:
mj12games.com/defiance

The author actually slightly recommends 15-20mm scale over 25-30mm… Requires single basing tho, out of the box.

Striker and Striker-II.

Blinksquirrel09 Jun 2009 9:40 p.m. PST

Star Grunt II, but I am going to check out Ambush Alley.

John Treadaway12 Jun 2009 4:45 p.m. PST

I'd say Hammer's Anvils, but I'm biased…

I'd say Alien Squad Leader, but then again I'm biased too…..

Star Wars Miniatures Battles…the 1991 rules

Weasel18 Jun 2009 11:04 p.m. PST

Darclegion. What was that game like?

alien BLOODY HELL surfer19 Jun 2009 2:41 a.m. PST

Weasel – I've got the old SW minis battles, I've not played it yet, but read through and it seems overly complicated for larger games. The troops have numerous stats pretty much on par with the rpg, which, for me personally, is too much in a game with anything more than say 10 figures a side. I'm going with FWC (main game or perhaps the skirmish game) for my WEG Star Wars figures. I'm going to base them up individually, but make movement trays I can place them on to play the main game more easily.

Cyclops19 Jun 2009 5:08 a.m. PST

Ambush Alley. Moving on to Force on Force for platoon+ actions and Future War Commander for battalion+.

Seems lots of people use Ambush Alley/FoF -- what assets are available to convert these rules to SF so as to get anti--grav drives, advanced weaponry, larger than human creatures, mindless killing machines, and all that goodness?

". . . what assets are available to convert these rules to SF so as to get anti--grav drives, advanced weaponry, larger than human creatures, mindless killing machines, and all that goodness?"

The Ambush Alley Games Forum is ready to stand and deliver! We have a section of the forum devoted to Science Fiction mods for the game and people have posted up their house rules for pretty much everything you mention, Khurasan! Several TMPers have contributed ideas.

Drop by and take a look! We're at ambushalleygames.com/forum

Another vote for Stargrunt II.
