anyone seen the movie Aces High? I caught a breif Youtube bit on it and it looked OK from that, but was wondering if it would be worth while to track down a copy (never seen it here in the US ) so I look forward to your feed back |

In short, yes. A very gritty and probably quite relaistic view of life in the RFC in WW1. Makes "Flyboys" look pretty sad, IMHO :) |

By no means a classic but certainly well worth watching. Basically an airborne version of R.C. Sherriffs "Journeys End" |

It has characters with a degree of stereotype, and shows it origins as a stage play in much of the dialogue, but it is a good film and the aerial sequences can be astonishing. However it is not a film if your heroes should not have feet of clay though. watch it and see. |

very good film – have read quite a few memoirs of pilots capturing what I imagine the feel of the time must have been like (the stress of combat, etc) chocks away! |

I don't remember it favorably: impressions that remain are over-acting, melodramatic, bad aircraft representations (nothing that looks like real WW1 airplanes), and too many characters are TOO OLD, e.g. Plummer. YouTube link Yeah, pretty much what I remembered: except: they seem to have cribbed scenes from The Blue Max (real looking SE5's and Fokker D7's), and where did that Eindekker come from? Cute!

Was that a compilation of every battle in the movie? |

Yes, it is fine, in an 'Oh What a Lovely War' sort of way. N "Replacement officers. Sir!" |
