I know that several companies make Samurai and Ninjas in 28mm, but do any make them in 20mm? I've seen the plastic Ceasar 1/72 scale minis, and I'm not all that impressed.

Should I go with the flow and get 28's? Who makes "everyday dress" samurai? (Perrys perhaps?)

Perrys certainly do one set of 'undress samurai' – SAM43

Dixon do some chunky 25s. They're a bit 'old school', but I like them.

In 20mm B&B Minatures have some:

The choice is far better in 28mm. I particularly like the Museum Minatures ones (the ladies in kimonos pack is very useful for skirmish games):

museumminiatures.co.uk

(the web site is a bit odd, and I can't open the links to individual packs, but the photos on the main samurai page give a good idea of the style of the figures).

Black Hat and The assault Group both make a variety of armored and unarmored Samurai (and the Black Hat are on sale in my web shop):

We'll have some unarmored samurai in a few months as well as ninjas in 28mm. I must update the site too!

Darby E,

If you decide to go with the 28mm Ninja's I have a pretty good collection of unpainted ones from a variety of companies that I've been thinking about getting rid of.

Contact me at Leidang at mchsi dot com if you are interested.

I'd go with the Perry ones. I did a bunch of each for a game at historicon a number of years back. They are great figures. You can't go wrong with them.

You can get them from Age of Glory in the states.

The Zvezda 20mm samurai are very good. The Redbox ashigaru look less attractive unfortunately.

Zvezda 1:72 are nice if you like that kind of soft plastic miniatures, but I don't think they have unarmoured samurai. In addition the other good tips in this thread you could check out Old Glory, as they have a pack of various unarmoured samurai and townspeople in 25mm.

You can still get Clan War and West Winds Edo Street Thugs.

Dixon do some excellent unarmoured figures in their 'Ronin' range.

Packs SR1 – SR4 are all unarmoured figures with bows, swords, polearms, & mixed weapons respectively.
These are new sculpts, & way better than their original, 'chunky' figures.

And eM-4's pre-painted 'Oriental Blades' range is worth a look, too. Some of the nicest pre-painteds available, & well-priced. Quite a few unarmoured characters there.

Thanks all. My hope is to go 20mm, as I have a ton of terrain, etc, already. But if 28mm seems the best…
…sigh… decisions, decisions…
