I am in need of recommendations for books regarding…

1. Flags of the ACW
2. OOB for the Army of the Cumberland and the Army of the Tennessee

I want to play using Guns at Gettysburg so information down to regimental detail is what I am looking to find.

Thanks for the help!

Any of the books by Cozzens will have a nice OOB for both armies in the appendix – these should fit your needs.

Second the Cozzens.

Cotton Jim makes unit specific ACW flags in 15mm and 25mm but I'll have to see if he has the ones for out west…

These books from Last Square are alos useful for scenario ideas:

Third the Cozzens. It's almost like he writes for wargamers!!

The "Heartland" scenario book is tailor made for GaG. They're doing a great job of cranking the scenario books out.

And I'll also join the chorus of Cozzens praise.

Cozzens (a fellow Foreign Service Officer) is great. Pfanz and Rhea are equally good for Gettysburg and 1864 Virginia respectively.

You could create excellent wargame scenarios using the maps from the Cozzens books. Priest's South Mountain and Antietem also seem to have the wargamer in mind.

You can go here and find the OB's for the Army of the Cumberland and the Army of Tennessee that was taken out of the offical records.

Just one major nitpick about Chickamauga. Johnson's provisional division was in Hood (Longstreet's) corps, not Buckner's. Its a typo and weird layout taken from Bragg's original OOB in the Official Records. Almost every single OOB in print gets it wrong and people on the web just reprint it as such. Just read Cozzens, or read Johnson's report in the ORs.

Imagine somebody publishing an OOB of Gettysburg with Pender's Division listed in Early's 2nd Corps. The howls…

For flags you can't beat The Battle Flags of the Confederate Army of Tennessee by Howard Michael Madaus & Robert D. Needham.

For the other side, there's The Flags of the Union: An Illustrated History by Devereaux D. Cannon, jr.

Where in Maine are you? I briefly lived in Belfast, ME, 1972-74.
