4:10 into the video, they start speaking directly to us!

Yes I saw that yesterday and had the same thought!!! I want to see a big hand come down and move the troops rather than them moving by themselves though! :) Sure makes working out line of sight easier! Welcome to the future gentlemen!

Now imagine being able to 3D-scan in your minis and your terrain and hook up over the internet. It's always game night somewhere in the world.

Exactly Thomas, in the next few years we'll be able to play miniature games with agreed upon commercial rules with scans of our own miniatures with anyone in the world.

In fact with this system we will be able to move them on a simiulated 3D gaming table-

I saw a live demo at a Technology review and the user was able to get wave motion going in a pond that looked as though the splashes would pop right off of the table and wet the user. Pretty impressive tech.

Pretty cool stuff and yet another way to have fun. Will it replace a table, miniatures and terrain of styrofoam and flock though? Not for me, as I enjoy the social aspect and the painting process too much. I play on VASSAL and tried a new MMOG now and then. While the experience is fun, it can never beat meeting with friends, admiring the new minis, rolling some dices, trashing the ruleset, having a few laughs…

DRDHauser:
Well its not quite the same, but Virtual Tabletop is in open alpha and within the next couple of months, the server will be going online so people can play in a 3d environment.
