OK so what do you think would be the best use for such a domain ? I am not going to be selfish and use it just for my range of 15mm miniatures. I am thinking that a wiki style 15mm scale miniatures information data base with photos would be good for our community. Free to use and post. What do you say ?

I have thought that an uber-catalog of 15m figures would be a great idea. It would be organized by time period/troop type. Under each category would be an entry for each manufacturer. So for example:

Napoleonic Wars – Spain – Infantry – Grenadiers:
* Warmodelling
* Old Glory
* Minifigs

World War II – France – Infantry – Early War Infantry
* QRF
* Minifigs
* Battlefront
* Old Glory

…and so on.

I thought about doing it myself just couldn;t come up with a good way to do it…

A wiki style site would be very cool, especially if it provided the kind of organization and layout that Extra Crispy suggests. It would be nice to see people contribute pictures of painted or unpainted figures so one could see pics of products which might not have photos on their manufacturer's web site.

Excellent idea ! Mark, can you help with creating a list of categories ? I will check all the available wiki / catalog software and report here.

Oh and if this works out, we can duplicate it for 06mm.info later. Another domain I bought.

Here is how I thought I would do it before I decided I was stretched too thin as it is…

Set up a dummy "web store" but it would obviously not take orders. The categories would NOT detail each and every code, just general categories. So for example the breakdown might be:

WW2 – Germany – Infantry – DAK
WW2 – Germany – Infantry – Engineers
WW2 – Germany – Infantry – Fallschimrjagers

and so on.

How specific you get might vary. For example, for Vikings it might just be:

Dark Ages – Vikings – Viking Infantry
Dark Ages – Vikings – Viking Ships

For ancients it would be:

Ancients – Romans – Mid Republican Roman
Ancients – Romans – Early Imperial Romans

Under DAK there might then be a listing of reach manufacturer that makes 15mm German DAK infantry. That way a gamer could then go look for those manufacturer's web sites (I'd put a link right in the listing). So you'd know your choices are Old Glory, Resistant Roosters, QRF and Peter Pig.

The problem with this is the web master(s) has to do most of the work.

I'd be happy to help set it up…

Actually its possible to setup a dummy webstore – All of the OSCommerce based webshops have an option to setup as a catalog. Unfortunately, they all suffer from a single admin or rather admin class. Not really separate access to separate categories / manufacturers / products / etc. That means someone could change another users data…

There are mods and even an expanded shop / mall with better security access, but they all have their beta or even alpha problems. Anyway I will check them first on a demo site before implementing the safest / best option overall.

Thanks for the links Mark. I am sure I will have a lot of fun testing them all ;) and thanks for the initial categories too ! :)
