Does any of our experts have any details of the activities of the 15th Light Dragoons/15th Hussars, between 1800 and 1815, in particular, the details of actions that they were involved in. Thanks.

I can help with anything from 1815 (I have a database of the all the men in the regiment from that year). Just let me know.

My wife's Great great grandfather was in that regiment from late 1799 until the beginning of 1815, when he was discharged because of "bad legs". We'd be interested to know, beyond Corunna and Sahagun, what actions the Regiment was in.
Thanks for your offer. His surname was Sheppard; spellings may vary, of course, as he was illiterate.

Sorry Reccerat, the url given seems to be meaningless; at least when I enter it it comes up with "no such Url". The link also seems to be dead.

15th Hussars…best British Cavalry regiment from 1793-1815…bar none…man for man, they could (and DID) hold their own w/Daumesnil's Chasseurs a Cheval of the Guard (and that speaks alot).

They had an excellent rep before going to the Low Countries in 1793, but were taken under the wing of the Archduke Leopold Hussars (Austrian) and taught many of the skills and tricks that make a good regiment great and they never forgot them during the next 22 years.

The regimental history of the 15th Light Dragoon Hussars is available on Google (need to spell out the number on a search):

Historical record of the fifteenth, or the kings regiment of light dragoons, hussars: containing an account of the formation of the regiment in 1759 and of the subsequent services to 1841
John W. Oarker, West Strand, 1841

Edwulf,

You forgot 'Emsdorf' the regiments first battle honour,
indeed the first battle honour bestowed upon the British Army!

I can highly recommend the following books;

Light Dragoons, by Allan Mallinson,
15th the Kings Hussars, By Alan Kemp,
The Princes Dolls, by John Mollo, (for a period taste!)

BTW…Ralpher et al…I know how to snag links from Google Books…but not the ones you and others seem to come up with…how does one go about finding those?

Camcleod15 Oct 2009 9:31 a.m. PST

Let someone else (Steven H Smith) find them:

My Englaise, she's a not so gude…

I was speaking more about the format of presentation…when I provide a link to Gooble.ducks…I send it using the search names I was looking under.

Others here give the link and it gives you the details, download linx and a big button saying…Would you like to read this book…I was just wondering where you go to get that specific format?

(But THANKS nonetheless, Clam Cloud!)

Here is your link, less your search terms:

All that has been done is to delete all charachters past the "id=8aNDAAAAIAAJ"

If you wanted to direct us to page 226, you need to delete all charachters past "&pg=PA226":
