Prompted in part by the thread about Saxon cavalry in Austrian service, does anyone know about any colours carried by the reconstituted Saxon regiments in French service? Apparently, under the terms of the capitulation their original colours were stored in the neutralised fortress of Königstein for the duration of the war, but there is a mention of their receiving new colours in Vienna before joining the French army in Westphalia…

The new colors, according to Pengel&Hurt were a simplified version of 1753 colors stored in Koenigstein: no embroidery and paint on silk instead. The Leibfahne was white and the Ordinarfahne was in the regimental distinctive colors. No ideas about the devices carried on the flag.

Great stuff Fabrizio! Must have overlooked it when browsing a friend's P&H years ago. From here I think we can improvise… Many thanks – M.
