I would like to know if you still can get the figures? Mike Adams

cherrypicker17 May 2009 8:18 a.m. PST

We have some, while we do the handover I will be doing a stock take.

It should be done next Friday when I start back in the store.

Send me an email to sales@figuresincomfort.net and I can send you the list (we are adding an extra 5% discount).

It would appear that the range has been sold and is in the process of being transfered from one owner to the other.

Hi everyone, the Glasgow Wappinshaw took place today, and it seemed as though everyone enjoyed themselves. One guy who turned up with a load of games stuff had so much that he didn't take it to the bring & buy, having a table in the main hall instead. He has a large amount of unpainted Companion minis: Caesarean Romans, Gauls and Iberians. He says he would be willing to sell them on, certainly in the UK, and perhaps further afield. I have his personal contact information, but rather than post them on a public forum, anyone who might be interested could email me on

p.innes@educ.gla.ac.uk

and I'll forward your details. I have no idea how much he wants, or exactly what he has, but it occurred to me that someone from TMP might be interested.

Cheers
Paul

Hi Paul

Tried emailing you but I got an automatic bounceback saying your on study leave to September.

Hi Marcus, don't worry about the auto message, I still receive incoming emails. I have web access anyway, so I still pick them from home and anywhere else. I'm hoping that the out of office message will keep folks at work off my back, but it never really works!

Cheers

Hi everyone, quite a few people have expressed interest in the figures I heard about at Wappinshaw, so the guy who has them has set up a new email address:

douglasbaird40@yahoo.co.uk

Any queries sent to this address will reach him directly.

Personal logo Artorius Supporting Member of TMP24 Jun 2010 6:32 p.m. PST

Does anyone know who sculpted the Companion ranges? The figures are very nice, so I can't believe that a talent like that just came and went without a trace.

BigRedBat25 Jun 2010 2:15 a.m. PST

Some of the ancient minis and most of the dollies are by Marc Copplestone, and very similar to equivalents in the Foundry Caesarian range.

Simon

Marcus Brutus25 Jun 2010 5:07 a.m. PST

I actually prefer Companion's Caesarian range to Foundry's even thought they're by the same sculptor.

BigRedBat25 Jun 2010 11:56 a.m. PST

There are some nice pose variations in the Companion caesarian range, but I can't quite forgive Companion for having no recesses on the backs of their Caesarian shields, so they are hard to stick on, properly.

Simon

LEGION 1950 Supporting Member of TMP25 Jun 2010 5:08 p.m. PST

I also had that probelm to, but I always had extras shields! Hi Simon!! Mike

I know it is a sore subject still, but has anyone heard anything yet? Mike Adams

drasen06 Dec 2011 7:42 a.m. PST

I add to Mike plea: is there any news on the actual whereabouts of the moulds that Mark Copplestone created for Companion? I have recently bought some of his Companion Romans and they are nice.

LEGION 1950 Supporting Member of TMP06 Dec 2011 8:13 a.m. PST

Drasen, I fear we have heard the last!!! Mike Adams

drasen06 Dec 2011 5:22 p.m. PST

Hi Mike, did you try to contact douglasbaird40@yahoo.co.uk? The message is more than one year old but it may be worth trying (except if anyone following this thread has tried before and got a negative).

LEGION 1950 Supporting Member of TMP07 Dec 2011 7:11 a.m. PST

Drasen , try it. I got my Spainish cav from him and he had alot of other ancients from Companion also. Please let me know, I still need some to fill out my units! Mike

drasen07 Dec 2011 3:17 p.m. PST

Hi Mike, I have tried the above address just now and I got my email bounced.

I am particularly intrigued by the mention of a few Republican Romans in the Companion catalogue as being sculpted by Mark Copplestone. Has anybody got any further reference or could post some photographs? A list of his miniatures in the Companion catalogue would also be highly appreciated. So far I have located just six, all Caesarian Romans.

Could not Mark Copplestone himself be induced in some way to produce new figures to complete to the ancients ranges? His output these last years seems not to be very large (though certainly interesting if a bit "off all the common track") but all the talent is still there.

LEGION 1950 Supporting Member of TMP07 Dec 2011 4:43 p.m. PST

Drasen, they had the 3 basic types of Rep. Romans, and some mounted command figures! If you want to see a cataloge I would try to find some old W.I. magazines some where. Mike Adams

drasen07 Dec 2011 5:45 p.m. PST

Mike, many thanks for the offering, that would be really helpful.

Archive of the catalogue is here, but no pics unfortunately

drasen08 Dec 2011 4:18 a.m. PST

Thank you, mister ed. Could you confirm whether those six references of Republican Romans (and one more coming in the year 2006?) were made by Mark Copplestone? That would make them very interesting and unique, as Copplestone did not produce any similar figures for Foundry. Any idea how many references were in the Republican Roman category when Companion finally closed (in 2008 I presume)?

mister ed Inactive Member08 Dec 2011 5:07 a.m. PST

From what I recall they used the Copplestone unarmoured Caesarians in Montefortinos as dollies, modified with feather crests and with various square and round pectorals. They looked good for what they were, but the origin was fairly obvious.

The 'extra' (over and above the Foundry range) Companion Caesarians were modified by Michael Percy according to the site – I guess the Republicans were the same?
