I have these rules but have never used them but i'll be running a game for friends in late June,so i wanted to get an idea of how the rules work from people who has has used them in games. I do have the predecessor Killer Katanas and also Taiko by Flagship games(which i've used alot),and when KK II came out i had to get it. So as i said this'll be my first time i'll be using KK II so any thoughts would be grateful. Thanks Captain Gideon |

KK2 is a great source of information on the personalities and the period. The section on clans and their leaders is worth the purchase price alone. I have a problem with the card system, however, and have moved to using another movement determination system for the rules. Have you looked at the Yahoo site Nobunaga's Castle? There is a free set of rules there that has elements that I think are of use in playing either KK2 or the Peter Pig Age of Battles system. I'd be interested in what you think. |

Kenshin and I have been discussing Samurai rules on another forum: KK2, Peter Pig's Age of Battles rules and Nobunaga's. Each has something good to offer in terms of period feel and game mechanics. |

I would like to get your opinion on PP's Age of Battles. Their ACW rules have worked out so well that I'm hoping the samurai rules will do the same, but I haven't heard any specifics. |

I like the Age of Battles rules very much, especially the PP unit activation method and their classical battle formation set ups. My difficulty with the rules center on saving throws and the buckets of dice approach--which I know others like. I like the more streamlined fire and melee system in KK2 and Daimyo. |

I don't know how long that address will be functional. Yahoo has decided to close down Geocities. Rich |

If that is so I'd recommend that every who is interested in playing samurai download a copy now. I'd also suggest taking a look at another free set called Bushi at the Gekokujo Yahoo site. Not really a finished set but has some interesting ideas like the non-turn player challenging the activation of an opposing unit if his general has a higher rating. After a die roll, if the non-turn player wins, he activates his unit first. If he loses, his unit is finished for the turn. |

Captain, You said you play the Taiko Rules a lot. Can you give me some insight on them? I'm especially interested in the weapons vs armour type interaction. Don |

Don I can do that but i need to locate them and then i can let you know. Thanks Captain Gideon |

Captain – I've read the review at Nobunaga's Castle. So, I'm seeking info that wasn't included there. Another question I have is about the basing for the army battles (not skirmish) – figures per stand, stands per unit. Thanks, Don |
Captain Gideon | 31 May 2009 8:23 a.m. PST |
Don I recently found my Taiko rules so i'll try and answer your questions. First off regarding the basing from what it says it has it by figure. Infantry 1/2"x1/2" Cavalry 1/2"x1" Officers As appropriate(depending on whether the officer is mounted or on foot). So for example you have 3 Infantry on a base so the size would be 1 1/2" wide by 1/2" deep. You use D6's for this game. When it comes to Weapons vs Armor interaction it's fairly simple, for each figure firing say a Bow will roll 1-D6 per figure. And if the roll is equal to or greater than the target Unit's armor value(including modifiers)will cause a hit. Hope this helps let me know if you need more info. Captain Gideon |

I'm following the discussion on Samurai rules here--is anyone else interested in a hybred of say grafting the unit motivation and activation system of Peter Pig to the KK2 system--which I like very much except for the all infantry move/all cavalry move cards. |
Bugstomper1 | 02 Jun 2009 1:22 a.m. PST |
I actually like the card system, but think that in the early going KK2 should be more like Piquet/Archon2; on an infantry move card an entire command can move, any cavalry that has moved on a cavalry card cannot then be moved as part of the entire command. Don |

I would like the card system more too if it were based on commands/clans--left, right and center? Like Piquet, you could add cards for the Daimyo who could then choose to activate any of the clans. The more higly rated the Daimyo, the more such cards (maybe max 3). You would still end the turn after 16 total cards played. |

Not completely on topic, but now that we have raised a KK2 thread from the grave
Anyone know how well it works to dumb down the KK2 rules? I'm planning for a big 6mm participation game next year, probably will do Nagashino, but after only reading KK2 I think it would be a bit too complex for someone to play for the first time. So I'm looking at whether to simplify the rules, as I'll have to change tables etc. anyway for 6mm, or if I should just use the KK2 book for the nice scenario layouts and use another system altogether. Any recommendations for a system that can handle 4-6 player games with 100+ bases without being too complex for first timers with some help from GMs? |

I have not actually played the KK rules but bought and read them and the supplements as a useful resource – well worth it. They are interesting but I like the play and scale of Field of Glory Renaissance. |

Now that Nobunaga's Castle seems to have no active website, does anyone know if it's still available anywhere? |

I just bought your rules, Brian, and I was just looking to see if there were any "tweaks" people had found advisable since they were released. It says a lot for you that there seem to be none. |
