Does anyone know of a source for inexpensive reprints of Jean Larteguy's novels "The Centurions" or "The Praetorians" in their English translations? The used copies available on Amazon or like sources all seem to be quite expensive. I don't know if any of his works are still in print in English. |

Wow !! I read both back when I was in the Army in the '80s
Didn't realize they were hard to come by now
They were very good

Cheat for the Centurions, look for "The Lost Command" instead. Exact same text but the title and cover are form the movie based on the Centurions. I got it on Ebay at a reasonable price. Jake |

The Centurions was on my contemp Euro History course in the late 60's. I really read it in 73 up in Minot. Scariest book I ever read. I knew all those people from my Nam tour. We said the same things about how to fight the next war as Raspeguy, Boisfueras, and the others. Natokina. |

My favorite is Minh and his sand-filled sock. Do you remember the 'Black Panther?' The Centurions was one of the texts for the course on Revolutionary Warfare at West Point in the 1970s. I still have my copy, though it is well-worn. 'Beware the Anger of the Legions!' Sincerely, K |

"The Pretorians" was reprinted by Hailer Publishing in 2005 so you should be able to find a reasonably cheap version somewhere. I have yet to find a good, cheap copy of "The Centurions"or "The Lost Command"anywhere. Tw other realy good Larteguy reads are "The Bronze Drums" about Laos and "Yellow Fever"about the end of French Indochina. Cheers, Peter |

Yep. Penguin have done a reprint of The Centurions. Let's all buy a copy (I already have) and then start nagging them about The Praetorians. |
