Our group played out Marengo last weekend and considering how I was the only player that knew anything about the original battle, it was interesting to see us get a fairly historical result.

The game was suppose to last 22 turns but we had players having to flee toward domesticity before then. As it was, I had to crack the whip to get us rushing through 17 turns in 5 hours.

And no, the Consular Guard did not surrender this time.

At game end, it turned out that the Austrians had won on Victory points: 92 vs. 75. Concensus at the time though was that the Austrians would be destroyed over the next 5 turns if we had played it out.

Estimated Casualties on the day (including wounded etc)
French: 6240
Austrian: 6600

Excellent review…your words matched supported the photos and they both allowed me to follow the battle. And the map allowed me to match the photo to the overall situation. I really enjoyed this one.

One of the better and easy to follow AARs I have seen.

Great job!

What scale are the troops -- 28mm? And where did you get the little paper buildings you used for your villages in the early shots?

malcolmmccallum09 May 2009 7:04 a.m. PST

The figs are 15mm and the buildings are 6mm scale 'Paper Terrain' products.

Nicely done – I've always considered Napoleon to be lucky with his subordinates that was Desaix's victory not the Corsian Ogres.
