I've been tempted to buy some of these for 54mm "pirate" actions. Anyone doing so now?. |

My daughters and I did for a bit; it was part of my strategy to get my daughters to play wargames. I typically the fielded the viking ship and they had pirate ships, made for some fun games. D~ |

I kpt the pirate ship and sloop after my son grew out of such things. I couldn't bear to let them go – they had so much gaming potential. Never used them yet but one day, by golly

I am – but not "structured" – i.e. on the floor with the 4 and 2 year old! I do look at that ship and think it could make an incredible 28mm Aeronef type vehicle with the right modifications!! |

A friend of mine does wargames using Playmobil figures. She does a lot of wild west actions using the old Desperado! rules. She also uses the electric train. At the end of each turn, she turns on the train and moves it about a foot. So if you were using the train for cover it might not be there next turn. I know she has the pirate sets but have never seen her run a game with it. Note that everything (including the figures) is Playmobil – she doesn't use "normmal" 54mm figures. More adults than kids play in these games. |

I hadn't considered 28mm Aeronef, thanks Tony. |

I have been using 75mm Playmobil figures for ancients -- Romans and Gauls, and Egyptians and for Zombie-like games. I have a huge collection of Lego Pirates which are much cheaper, especially for the ships, than Playmobil. If you want Playmobil pirates, check here for inspiration link |

Playmobil is very nice for skirmish games. You can change weapons, mount and unmount horses etc.. Thats something regular minis donīt offer. Playmobil figs can be painted with acrylics very easily too if wanted. |

i was in the local lidl supermarket a couple of years ago and they had a whole stack of playmobil size pirate ships at £10.00 GBP ea, so i bought 2 of them and using some old west rules covering early weapons and hand to hand fighting we had a jolly good game, with the ships you also got a cannon, and a shark which provided plenty of laughs when someone fell into the sea and had a 'jaws' moment. we realy had a good game with them and we did not feel in the slightest bit daft! |
