In the museum where I work there was recently re-discovered in a box a shako 'star' plate from a British bell topped shako circa late 1830's. The plate had a large flaming grenade within the star plate with 28 on the grenade. My question is this: as the 28th were not AFAIK a fusilier or 'grenadier' regiment is it likely that this plate is from the grenadier company of the regt? Would an individual company in the British army at this point have separate and distinguishable helmet plates? Any help much appreciated!
