Blog posting for the first part of Fords of Isen is here:

Hopefully the final chapter will be posted within a week. Much depends on the amount of acutal gaming we get accomplished vs Commander's chit chat and drinking of beer. Gamers of a certain age will understand.

Looking forward to part 2

what are the markers for?

And to actually be confusing, in the Bakshi film they do call him Saruman some of the time

Thank you!

I think Bakshi threw in a few "Sarumans" with the "S" actually pronounced, so that people who knew the Multi-coloured one's real name would think that they just did not hear it quite right, and would not suspect it was deliberately mispronounced. I actually thought that after the first time I saw the movie, but when my friends complained, I realized that Bakshi had duped me into complacency.

The markers are for each unit, 6 infantry or 3 cav figures per, and represent the following characteristics: Attack, Defense, Morale, Movement, and Missile modifiers. This game has no charts. All combat results are determined by easy to remember die differentials. Of course, there are modifiers for terrain/fortifications. Morale is based on a six sided die roll, subtracting 1 pip for each figure eliminated, so that morale goes down as casualties rise, but there is no need to mark that as its accounted for by the surviving miniatures in that unit. Leaders are also labeled and color coded for the troop types they may command or rally. Email if you want the rules.

What are you using for the groundcloth? The fuzz is nice, in scale with the figures.

Thanks for the comment. I was using an indoor/outdoor rug I bought several years ago at home depot. I like the look as well. When compared to the traditional army green blanket, it is not so homogenous. However, it's a bit thick. Although it can be rolled, it cannot fold, so it's not as portable. Another advantage of the green blankets is that you can put styrofoam or wood beneath to make gentle slopes, which you cannot do with a thicker carpet. For elevations, I bought the phony fire place stones (made from some ceramic material) and painted them green/brown. You can stack them as you can styrofoam to make higher elevations. Need to spray some flat coating on these and it would improve their look.
