I was looking at the exchange rate and thinking it might be cheaper to order directly from Perry Miniatures. Anyone have some comments on going that route. I have always had great service from Age of Glory but considering a large order of the Choson Koreans (about 42-46 packs) it might be better to order direct and save some green?

I get mine from Neal at the Warstore. The times I have spread-sheeted it out, the savings for a direct order of around 20 packs was minimal – the rate had to be about 1 pound to 1.4 dollars for it to be worth it for me. It's at 1 pound to 1.49 right now. The fact that they do not have a postage cap is a killer.

Right now, at 42 packs, you'd save about $24 USD by ordering direct.

Main problem is Neal may not have your entire stock, and he's not showing the newest stuff as available.

I always order direct from the Perry's site and have always received the orders within a week. I live in Wisconsin.

I've gone all three routes and always pick the cheapest solution. That's usually through Neal or Steve.

Just received my first order of Koreans directly from Perry's site. I live in Japan but get mail at an APO (essentially little different from having a P.O. Box in California) so it generally takes a little longer to receive shipments. That said, Perry's got me my first troops (beautifully sculpted, by the way!) in just 10 days days at less cost than going through any of the middle-men I usually order through in the U.S.

10 days through an APO? Wow! That's quick. It usually took an extra two weeks for FPO AP deliveries for this Sailor.

May need to investigate these.

How do the Perry figures compare to the Lord of the Rings stuff from GW?

Easily the fastest any company (retailer or wholesaler) has ever addressed my lead (pewter?) "need" overseas.

Never actually seen the LotR figures in person so would not be in a position to compare the two. However, I just finished my first Korean figure last night and was amazed at how beautifully it painted up (my own artistic shortcomings notwithstanding!)

As mentioned elsewhere, Perry's are HIGHLY detailed, but the sculpted details really pay off with the finished product. For the Chosen Koreans, garrison troops, guerrillas and monks are simple enough to paint up, but I may feel differently about the "goodness" in the level of detail after a heavy unit or two with all the brigandine armor . . . though somehow I doubt it!

The Perrys are actually slightly larger than the LOTR minis. They're somewhere between LOTR and WHFB minis in terms of size.
