I managed to find a great deal on the boxed set, which is normally 70 bucks, for 26 including shipping, so I thought what the heck. The thing is, it only comes with one unit for each side. I am wondering if anyone has actually played, what they think of the game mechanics, how nice are the pre paints, etc. The reason I am asking is because I want to buy a few more minis and have found an online retailer selling at over 50% off, but the game looks like it might be a bit lame even if you do have 3-4 units and a few "incarnates"(leaders) on each side. So I leave it to you who have actually experienced this game to help me make an informed decision before I blow 120 bucks on minis and a game I am going to play five times. Thanks |

It isn't bad. It is more than small scale skirmish but isn't really set for big battles. I played one game with about a half dozen units a side and it was enjoyable. The best thing about it is that the figures are pretty good even if you don't like the rules so you can use them for all manner of other stuff. |

I have no experience with the Confrontation game, but the way to approach this is to figure out the worst case. If the game is horrible, how many figures will you have left over you can use with other rules? Divide the price by that number. That is the price per figure. If you are willing to pay that, you cannot lose. Go for it! If that price is too much unless you like the game, find someone to play it with and try it out. |

I agree with Donrice
I've got no faith in Rackham in regards to whatever they claim to have planned for the game. Buy the minis if you like them and can get them for a good price and will use them regardless of liking/disliking the C4 rules/Rackham going further down the toilet. |

The prepaints are actually very good. Not showcase quality by any means but certainly on a par with most peoples painting. Selection is currently a bit limited as the releases are concentrated on 3 of the 9 or 10 armies, but if those armies take your fancy there is enough around to get a decent force built up. To start, I would suggest only using the free PDF army lists and abilities rather than the printed armybooks. The pdf lists are much more balanced and allow more flexibility in units and leaders. The Printed books have more spells and abilities but at the cost of reducing the troop and Incarnate options you can field. I have not played the game many times (lack of opponents) but it is enjoyable. Very quick and quite "bloody". The scenarios in the starter set rulebook do not really give much of an idea on how the Incarnates and units interact. The actual game is far more tactical than first appears At those prices it is well worth picking up, but as others have said, Rackham are doing themselves no favours with the poor communication and the future for the game is still very uncertain. I will answer any specifics I can, but the Rackham site forum is the best place to see what people think of the game
.it is far from a collection of fanboys like some other fora so you will get a true idea. But, if you decide it is not for you
I'm first in line to take the Wolfen figs off you! |

Rackhams is faithless to their fans, and doing rather poorly, having downsized to 9/10 of the company. So, if you want the figs, go for them – or wait for an even better bargain. |

First step: cross-reference minis you like with the army software: rcommunity.nazgulworld.com before buying. I think most armies are probably fairly normal, but I bought Scorpion stuff based on the Scorpion PDF list and that didn't work out well. I think they must be planning a second Scorpion book, but it will likely never see the light of day. |

Thanks for the info BlackScribe. I am having a bit of trouble using the software, but i will figure it out.@ RobH is the PDF books you are referring to on the main rackham page? Thanks to everyone for their input, btw. I love TMP'ers. |

FarrowStudios, yes they are on the site when it is up :( They were released before any of the books to allow existing C3 players to use the metal minis in C4 CAoR. There is one for each army (apart from Ophidians) I have Dirz, Goblin, Orc, Undead, MidNor Dwarf and Wolfen pdf's and cards downloaded as those are the armies I have figures for. If you want any of these pdf's drop me an email rbrthrp AT hotmail DOTcom Blackscribe, I think there will be 3 Dirz books eventually each using only a subset of the previously available figures, the first book was monster heavy. |
