I apologize in advance for any pain or shock this question causes to those hard-core naval miniature gamers out there, but has anybody ever modified WAB rules to effect a simplified naval battle? I know this is a bizarre question, but hear me out. I'm getting ready to move to Seoul, Korea which has a fledgling interest in wargaming. I'm hoping/preparing to run an Imjin War Campaign (Japanese invasion of Chosen Korea in 1590) using WAB rules as a means to possibly help generate some interest in the hobby there. Since I'll be essentially teaching them one gaming system (WAB) using my poor Korean, I'm looking for a way to capture the oh-so-important naval aspect of that war without teaching a whole other set of rules/terminology. Seems like I could slightly modify the way WAB games are played using groups of ships (pannokseon, turtle ships, junks and seki-bune) instead of land-based units to work out very simple yet still satisfying naval battles, necessary to truly capture the feel of that conflict. These battles then would influence campaign aspects on land from supplies to recruiting to army morale. Similarly, land battles would influence the naval action as well. Has anyone tried anything like this? I would prefer to not start from scratch if at all possible. For that matter, do you think this will work and have the desired effect? Thanks, Marv

Best thing would be to refer to wabforum.co.uk and search for naval rules (which are to be found there, for example link ) as well as several medieval Asian lists-in-the-making (mine amongst them link I am working on a (so far unfinished) Korean list. The coming Divine Wind supplement (will it ever blow in?) should deal with the Imjin war. Asking around on the WAB Forum usually yields loads of info and advice. |

You could also look at Flagship Games' Pirates! It has an appendix covering ancients (galleys, etc). It "feels" like Warhammer and might suit your needs. You will have to create your own ship types. |

The thing with Pirates! is that it developed out of a WFB campaign, or so some of the text on the FSG website implies. |
